Flood situation in Thailand?

What makes you think that the road between Suvarnabhumi and Pattaya is at risk of being flooded? The areas that have flooding problems are generally been beside the rivers - the Mekong up North, Chao Phraya, Central and Bangkok area, etc.
Do you recall rivers between the airport and Pattaya?
Check The Nation or Bangkok Post websites for more details on the flooding areas. The road between Pattaya and Suvarnabhumi is not mentioned.

There is an old saying "ask a silly question and you get a silly answer" in the case of this forum you can ask a silly question and get a smart arsed answer! Prior to my silly question I did my own research with the BOM which a dvised of potential flooding in low lying areas of Bangkok and adjoining areas.Nothing about which rivers etc. Are there rivers between Bkk and Patts. Well I have made the return trip eight times usually at night and usually affected by drink Icant recall anything to rival the Mekong the Nile the Amazon etc but there are obviously waterways which drain what appears to me to be a fairly flat if not low lying area and COMMON SENSE tells me that these areas given a liberal dose of rainfall in the catchment areas will produce some degree of flooding.Does it rain down that part of LOS well good old RX would be able to produce all the relevant statistics. my own experience is limited to a 90 minute delay in take off from the new airport due to rain and to a plunge from the kerb o/s Stringfellows into 50 cm of water(again affected by drink) I ly it was Obsessions RX you remind me of an old head master at my school who took to his students with the cane with sheer delight. Oh by the way how did Canada fare against Australia in the Commonwealth Games? Have a nice day!

Thanks Giz,
Richmond, if your extensive research means reading what the plans of the BMO are - it is strictly to do with Bangkok, which happens to be on the Chao Phraya River.
The Nation or Bangkok Post websites state which areas are affected by flooding - Chonburi Province where Pattaya is located is not mentioned.
Suvarnabhumi Airport is located on a reclaimed swamp 25 km east of Bangkok, hence the nickname some give it "Swampybhumi", but it is not near the Chao Phraya so the risk of flooding is minimal.

Hey what is this . Beat up RichmondWeek. I ask a pretty simple question and now find myself criticised for lack of research and lack of knowledge of the topography and major river systems of South East Asia,I had initally hoped for a simple answer from one of the guys who lives in the area yes no or maybe. Now I am chided for having the audacity to suggest that Rx is a smart arse(note the spelling Gizmo) Well I retract that comment and insert "condescending" and "lecturing"Now I have never met the guy and due to the fact he lives in Canada and is not fond of Pattaya and I live in Australia and love Patts and all its grubbiness proabably never will meet but I would be happy to shake his paw(not you A/B) buy a drink and then tell him what I think. Now when I am making the trip down to Patts tomorrow night and stop at the Seven Eleven for a comfort stop I intend to find a puddle and stand in it to prove local and minor flooding. Finally what about a bit of support from some of the B/Ms that actually know me, tell the Forum that I ampretty harmless old fart who shuffles about town looking for ladyboys that like hands up their skirt!

Hi Richmond,
I think the gist of the above is that Rx is one of the generally most patient and helpful gents on here, never flaming anyone. A genuinely gentle-man.
Any flooding you may encounter in Patts is likely to be localised: flooded sois that sort of thing. The trip down would be unlikely to be affected.f0xxee

Yes Richmond, you are a very easy going guy who means no harm to anyone. But describing RXpharm's answer as "silly" puts everyone in an awkward situation.
Rather than have to take sides, the easiest way is to let it slide. Of course Gizmo will never shrink from speaking his mind but he wasn't out of order or rude.
I don't know how these things escalate but I can vouch for you as an Aussie war vet whose only bad intentions are what you intend to do to a slab of beer & a ladyboy's arse...Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

According to Thai news the flooding is receding and the worst areas are in Issan with Udon getting a specific mention. Some minor flooding in parts of Bangkok.
No flooding in Pattaya even though we still get a shower or two - helps clean all that grime frrom this dirty old town. The highway from airport to Sodom by the Sea is a raised highway in most parts and no delays.

Thanks Rossco - just confirms what is being reported in the Nation and Bangkok Post.
richmond - I'm not having a go at you - if you found information that showed the Bangkok - Pattaya Motorway at risk of flooding it would have been good to post it. What you found was the flood plans for Bangkok, which is quite different.
Enjoy your trip! I have not run down Pattaya in my previous posts, although I do prefer Bangkok as my regular lb lives there. I like Pattaya as I have some friends working at Alcazar and Tiffany cabaret shows. It's a good thing you don't have Phuket on your trip this time around as they are predicted to get heavy monsoon rains, which will cause mudslides and local flooding.
With regards to the lbs - don't be surprised if they may put a bit more pressure on as many have relatives who have been flooded out of their homes or farms, and so are requesting more support.
