at the J.W.Marriott, 4 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 2, Bangkok, in the large ballroom.

Putting this here but not sure if the meeting is specific to the current political unrest.

This is really stupid to announce to the world a meeting of US citizens, time, place, and location when the nut-bar fringe political factions might see this as an excellent opportunity to grab international attention and cause havoc internally with the government and protesters. reality is that many embassies and consulates usually don't give shit about helping you when you got serious problems.

When the Tsunami happened, the Swiss disconnected the phones of their Thailand representations because there were "too many calls".

Either one side will blink, things will bumble along as before and the crisis resolution will be postponed to some future date.
Or things will play out to the conclusion.
Us farangs and the Thais we interact with here will never have a say in the resolution.

I applaud there move, from my experience being here, the US embassy does a better job for its citizens than anyone else. I have never had any problems interacting with my embassy, there mailing list keeps me informed of information I needs (warnings like this, but also Tax matters and how to vote) and service has also been, relatively, swift and not insanely priced (but still not cheap).

I've heard lot of people bitching about out other embassies, especially the British one.
