As safety is a big concern for me, I specifically asked the Mr. Toom service for a Volvo. Was guaranteed one in an e-mail. Got picked up in some little sedan. Called the number, no answer. Told the driver "sorry" went in to airport and booked another ride. If they can't honor their commitment, tough. Soooooooo many options to PTY ...More, More, More ... how do you like it?, how do you like it? ... More, More, More ...

I know what you're saying Pilos, but I'd rather have a good driver in a modern car .... than a dozy one in a solid 'old' Volvo. Used a couple of random taxi cars from Pattaya in the past, where my blood pressure was thro the roof. Fast and poor drivers. Lurching between cars overtaking, braking for Thailand, then going off the motorway to seek out fuel. Grrr!
Always worry when I see the Lipo bottle in the front seatTT

(PigDogg @ Feb. 25 2010,11:54) Different.
I think Toom is more expensive.
Expense is secondary to safety, of course. But, I'm not sure how to make sure you don't get a sleepy driver.
Used them dozens of times, never a problem, never late once
If I remember, it was 1200 bkk centre to pattayaMister Arse

(PigDogg @ Feb. 25 2010,02:24) Or there's the food court on the lower level, but I've always found that unappealing.
If i was to define unappealing... I'd look no further than the food court at Kuala Lumpur LCC terminal (the one 200m from the terminal)

(mardhi @ Feb. 25 2010,02:43) I fine it quite amazing how guys nickle and dime a taxi driver - yet back home pay probably 5 or 10 times the Thai price for a taxi ride of half or one third the distance - kind alike the guys who go to the departure level to save 50 baht fee. To drive 150 KM from BKK to Pattaya costs all of like $40 - i used to pay that to go from Manhattan to JFK. Wierd approach IMHO.
Cheers
mardhi
Most numbers here are on the money and lets face it - every Thai involved in the tourism business is trying to rip the foreigners off - so i reckon publishing the going rates on a forum is fair game.
