Air Asia is probably your cheapest option.

great deals on AA online at the moment. I've got flights booked in Jun and Aug B1390 return Hkt- Bkk ( taxi to and from Patts will cost me more!). Get in early for the bargains.
I couldn't give a shit how long it is until you're next holiday- I live here

Check out Bangkok Airways site as well as sometimes they have better deals than AA. I found this on my last trip at Xmas.

Robbo is right in that you can organise flights when you get there. No need to plan too far ahead.

Air Asia and Bangkok Airways if you don't have heavy or to many luggage.

For Airasia, a baggage fee is charged for the carriage of Checked Baggage and for AirAsia checked baggage up to a maximum weight of 15kg will incur a Baggage Handling Fee on a per piece basist per one way, not exceeding 15kg. Please refer to our fee schedule for details on all rates.
Bangkok Airways, Maximum weight allowance is 20kg for adult and child / 10kg for infant.

can upgrade baggage weight if booking online w airasia for, I believe, 500B.  Gets you 30Kg.   You may be able to buy the cheaper upgrade at an actual airasia office.

If you fancy taking your life into your hands, you can also try One-Two-Go from Don Muang.......although do make sure you have adequate travel insurance.

Think Nok Air (Thai Airways Low Cost Sister) are still on the Don Muang route.

                      DO NOT FLY BANGKOK AIR.
They are the worst disorganized bunch of idiots around.
My experience with them was terrible. Just stay away.

Bangkok Air have a good reputation ... 'Boutique' airline whatever that means. A few details of what happened to you, Fretinker?

                            ok
the lines at the check in where 3 times as long as any other airlines. Moreover it was a total mess. Their manager was looking at the ceiling with expressionless eyes. I ask him to organize the lines. He did not understand. Finally after 45 minutes I made it to check in only to discover the flight was late. Went to the gate and after one hour started wondering what was going on and just realized they had changed gate without informing anyone. Finally after a long delay I forget how long really, they started boarding the plane. I ask for a seat at the front and they gave me the very last at the back. Once on the runaway we had to wait another half an hour before taking off.
Honestly more then what really happen was the ground staff that was really bad. I did not complain or anything i stayed quite calm and ask all questions quite gently without ever getting any straight answers. Because I assume the ground staff is not going to change anytime soon I would discourage anyone to fly Bangkok air off Phuket. For the sake of the truth I flew 2 years ago from Bangkok to Siem rip of whatever way is spelled and it was ok. For sure Boutique airline is not a proper description of their service

I flown Bangkok air a few times - too pricey for my liking but service was fine and no issues.
