I'm planning my 3rd trip to Los and I will be again flying from the good ole US. Anyone got an inside on a great deal from TX or CA to Los. I want to catch the tail end of New Year festival in Patt!!!
I mentioned this in another thread recently, but hopefully this bears repeating. I'm confident you lot will let me know otherwise if you disagree!
Last year, I flew Business Class on Cathay Pacific thanks in part to some last minute gyrations involving my Alaska Airlines Frequent Flyer miles. I'm doing the same this year but it was far less of a hassle. I discovered Alaska is currently offering 30% bonus miles with instant miles purchased at .0275 (2.75 cents per mile). It takes 100,000 miles for a roundtrip business class seat on their partner Cathay to asia, or 60,000 miles for a coach class seat. Assuming you join their Frequent Flyer Club today and buy the tickets with no miles in your account, this means that for $1,925 plus taxes you could book a roundtrip Business Class ticket or for $1,155 you can book a coach class ticket. For the Business Class ticket that's a great deal, as I recently went and checked and the cheapest I could find just the San Francisco to BKK Business Class portion was $5,445 from Kayak or Expedia. The flight times are great (leave San Francisco at midnight Wed, arrive BKK noon Friday) and the seats are fantastic.
Obviously this works best if you have the card in advance and use it for regular purchases so the balance in your account isn't ZERO when you get ready to buy the tickets. Otherwise, the price is steep unless, like me, you gotta fly Business Class, in which case it's actually a pretty decent deal. If you're ok with flying Coach, then this advice is worthless unless you adopt the strategy of using the card for all purchases and building a significant balance prior to booking the trip.
Hope this helps Neo! Good luck!
P.S. - I'll be in Pattaya at the end of January, let me know if you'll still be around.
