Panthip Plaza, its a smorgasboard of computers and best prices. You can shop and compare. 6 floors of electronics.
I bought a used one there. All accessories u can imagine, just dont buy at first place u go into, shop around within.

Rxpharm turned me onto this place for mine.
    Thanks again

The laptops with a Thai keyboard also have the Western letters too, right?

            No worries Stevie.

Even my used one that I bought has English and Thai on the keyboard. The money you have spent on that lb of yours and are about to spend. Well that is one lucky ladyboy.

Enjoy that next trip, its too bad I'll miss ya. Mine elongated trip is just about to end.

              Panthip or Fortune Town

Fortune Town is my favorite, much nicer atmosphere than Panthip

                    Panthip Plaza in BKK.
Just do some recon before you go there and have an idea of what you are looking for. There are tons of shops in there and you could spend hours comparing the costs of computers.
I like to stick with the bigger more well known shops but that is up to you.
A word of caution, the OS you get will be a copy and MS may dump WGA on your system if you try to update that.
Lastly make sure your shop gives you a 1 year warranty in writing.

                    Cheers and happy shopping

yes, the advice for recon cannot be stressed enough

the best is to know exactly what you want, because you won't get any useful advice at Panthip, they just want to sell their stuff.

So, make a list of features your laptop should have, locate 3 or 4 corresponding models of large manufacturers, look at no-name alternatives from assemblers or MSI and write down all prices (look at internet discounter quotes).

SD is right, they will try to get you on the software (except if you go to the big SONY Style outlets at Siam Paragon, LOL).

The good thing about no-name/MSI laptops is that they are often available without OS (or with an obsolete version).
So the price of a no name laptop at a discounter will be a good base for comparison with the Panthip laptops with fake OS...

At many places you will then see that all the alledged "bargains" are not really bargains.

If you're not a computer "expert" I would *not* advise you to buy a laptop without OS or installed with a fake one.
If you are an expert, you already know what to do...

If you find a good price, and if the vendor assures you that the OS is genuine, ask him to allow you to try "windows update" over microsoft.com

stevie, I can highly recommend this shop Win Systems, 604/3 Pantip Plaza 4th Floor, Rm 474 Petchburi Rd, Bangkok, 10400, 02-255-6708. This is the shop Boarhog bought his used laptop at. The manager is Kampee, honest, reliable, gives excellent service. They sell new and used laptops, accessories, and can do complete laptop repairs as well - my ex-gf spilled Tom Yam Goong on her laptop, fried the motherboard. Cost 8000 Baht to fix back in 2002, much cheaper than having HP fix it or buy a new one.

Easy to get to Pantip Plaza from Sukhumvit - catch aircon bus 511 or regular bus 2 from the even number soi side. If traffic is ok, will drop you off 1/2 block from Pantip Plaza in front of Diamond Condominium Towers in 20-30 min. To get back, use the pedestrian overpass from Pantip Plaza, catch the BLUE signed 511 or regular bus 2.

Rxpharm, you truly are an invaluable asset to the forums. This thread has no pertinence for me, but I know what if feels like to receive such information.

You're a good man. I know many others here appreciate your efforts.

                          Cheers to you.

                            Hey, Stevie.

You've now given me the obvious direction for a birfday present for Ice from the old lady and I.

Let me know what kind of accessory we can pick up...

                            Cheers.
