  • Package Deal/Travel Agent

    If this has been addressed then please excuse my feeble search skills and please direct me to the proper thread:

    I have been looking at package deals through Travelocity, Orbitz, etc., and I am wondering if this is a good choice or if it is better to make seperate hotel and flight arrangements.

    I am wanting to stay in downtown Bangkok, near Nana Plaza for four or five days.  I can afford a five-star hotel, but I am more concered about location and LB friendly staff.

    I could not find a package deal that included the Dynasty Inn, which seems to be a popular choice and seems to meet my criteria.  I don't care about a pool, gym, etc., just air conditioning and an stand-up shower.

    it's better to make separate bookings for the hotel and flights. Many package deals are for regular tourist oriented hotels - often not guest friendly or not well located for visiting the nightlife areas.

      Same advice as RX, I fly EVA, and then use Expedia for the hotel, if an upscale hotel is your plan, and close to Nana, check out the Marriott and the Majestic Grande, both should meet your criteria
      Life is short. Live it well.

          marriott = 5 star
          landmark = 5 star
          majestic = 4
          dynasty inn grande = 3 1/2
          adelphi suites = 3 1/2
          aspen suites = 3

          by chance, someone put together a hotel list, including rates:

            I always book through Agoda when I visit Thailand.  You can search on Bangkok and then narrow ithe location down to Sukhumvit which is the area Nana Plaza is located.  I would recommend the Majestic Grande, close to the action, guest friendly and a great hotel all around

                the newbie on the street in BKK can find it a bit daunting (unless a seasoned traveller), i would say get your flight and a few nights mayby 3/4 booked by your travel agent,tell the agent about the hotels recommended here and get one of those,once youve found your feet after 3/4 days in BKK the beer and girls and sparkly lights will take over your brain and penis,you will indeed not ever be the same man again, you will find that the penis will guide you on where to stay and what to do,life all of a sudden becomes very simple.................AND FUN.

                      Book direct...Don't book through Orbitz et al...they will have you miles from the action...

                      You want to be on an even numbered Soi...2, 4 or 6 are the best...they are on the same
                      side of Sukhumvit as Nana and Guess...Odd numbers are on the other side...Don"t stay on
                      Soi 11...I guarantee the girls won't want to hike all that way and it's a real pain in the ass to
                      get a taxi to take you there...You have to cross Sukhumvit to get a taxi going in the right
                      direction...

                      All of the Dynasty group are on either Soi 4 or Soi 6...Either a 2 minute or 5 minute walk away
                      from all the action...

                      If you pick the Dynasty Inn, which is right next to Nana ask for a room in the back wing...they
                      are small but newer...The same with the Dynasty Inn Grande...the back wing rooms are cheaper
                      amd nearly the same as the rooms in the front wing...and about twice as large as the Dynasty Inn...
                      I've never stayed at the Dawin, but those who have tell me it is similar to the Dynasty Inn Grande...
                      It is on Soi 4 just past Soi 6 next to the Omni...I believe the Dynasty Inn Grande has a good promotiional
                      rate on the back wing rooms...

                      Here is a link to all the Dynasty group hotels...Just send them an email with your dates...A deposit
                      is not required...

                      Make certain wherever you stay to book the room for two people...

                      Enjoy...

                      Here's a  map of the area showing the DIG...The Di is right next to Nana and The Dawin is on Soi 4 just
                      past the entrance to Soi 6...

                        I really wonder why many hotels keep making such crappy maps where one has trouble finding his orientation even if he knows the area, whereas Google is available for free in thai and english?

                        Anyway, here is an approximative map I quickly made in 2 minutes, showing the important spots in the nana vicinity:

                          hmm.i used to stay on soi 11 regular,got to like it.found a niche.(and some short cuts through little alleys and parkin lots was allways handy when taking 2 girls back for coffee and mints and a chat about the weather.
                          but you have a point if you dont know the area ,then staying on main SUK drag is easier.

                            Hello Krw60,

                            The Dynasty Group don't seem to have tie-up/package deals with anyone.  If you want to stay at one of their hotels you pretty much have to book direct and if you do use a booking website from experience you get the same rates anyway.

                            Also you can usually get a better rate on the airfare + hotel booking seperately than you can as a package.
                            Unless you want to travel to the same hotel/beach as the rest of cattle  -  which will be in an area away from everything  -  especially ladyboys!

                            The Dynast Inn is OK and though it's an older hotel they do make refurbishments to it, have good staff and it's close to the action.
                            Dynasty Inn Grand is a better bet if your budget will stretch.  The rooms are fairly big but a little basic.
