krw, thanks for posting on this forum.  A very good thread for discussion.

It is a subject that I was discussing with my regular girl this week.  This is the LB who told me she wanted to look after me long time ... even if I was in a wheelchair.  To which I replied (true) ... 'But you are going to have to find all the ATMs with ramps, not steps!'

But last week I turned over my ankle in Nana Soi 4.  Therefore limping a lot. She said 'Why you go out Nana and let ladies laugh at you?'  Maybe .. because she wants me to stay at my BKK home!

In LOS, age is no barrier to enjoyment (as it certainly is in the UK). And I've never seen disabled guys treated with anything less than respect either.   Baht conquers all.  Enjoy this fantasy world. Let us know when you are on your way.

(Boarhog @ Mar. 21 2009,16:38) I have even seen high level Quadriplegics out alone in a power chairs.
When my mother was a child, her 7 year old cousin Mitch was hit in the head by a rock. Some kids were having a rock fight, and he was just passing by casually on his way home from school. The impact of the rock was so much that it made him a quadriplegic for life.

Despite the fact that he could not move his arms or legs on his own, the guy still traveled all over the united states. Someone from our area had claimed to even see him rolling down the streets of Kansas City in his power-chair.

He had a Stephen Hawking-like voice modulator as well, and I would often talk to him when I was riding my bike downtown as a kid. Yep, the guy would just ride all around suburban Chicago on his wheelchair! I have no clue how he used the restroom, ate, bathed, etc... He was just Mitch.

Mitch passed away a few years ago in his early 50s. The injury to his brain was just too traumatic, I guess. I always felt bad for his injury, being that it was in no way his fault. I always loved Mitch.

To this day, I have never thrown a rock at another person. When I was a kid, my mother would always tell us not to throw rocks and because of Mitch's injury, I listened.

            RIP, Mitch.

              On a lighter note .............

A kid were I live was very badly disabled , 24 hours wheelchair bound, so we had a whip round and sent him to Lourdes .

His little legs were so crippled they couldn't get him out of the wheelchair so they had to put him in a hoist and lower him into the water .

He came out much the same but the wheelchair had 2 new tyres
Free your mind and your ass will follow .

Yesterday I saw a guy with no feet laying face down on the sidewalk at Sukhumvit Subway station. His arm was outstretched with a styrofoam cup in his hand looking for handouts
Perfect description. That guy has been doing the exact same thing for years. Have seen him at patpong too so his mobility is better than you might think. The word is he makes a killing, usually his routine nets him over 10,000 baht a day!
didnt he have a name ? something like that Bangkok / Sukhumvit slider? been around years, always catch him amongst the crowds in Chatachuk / Sukhumvit / Patpong he gets around more than most!!!

I think 10K a day is a bit overly optomistic for this annoying twat.

He is going for shock value by laying sprawled out face down. There is no reason why he couldn't sit with cup in a normal sitting position like all the other amputees who depend on handouts.

At Chatachak market there are 2 disabled Thais in wheelchairs who sell lottery tickets. I always make a point to buy from them. I also saw a blind guy who sold them in Bang Kapi, wonder if anyone tried to steal from him. Maybe he was just semi-blind, or the locals kept an eye out for him. Have to be pretty low stealing lottery tickets from a blind person.

What I hate is the women who bring small children out at all hours of the evening to panhandle playing on sympathy for her poor kids. some of them even ge the kids started as soon as they can hold the cup and point it in the direction of passerbys.

                            Actually there is a reason.

And those are harder to come by, if one only has an ordinary routine.
