(Boarhog @ Feb. 21 2009,03:22) I have done this several times now, and it basically saves you that nights barfine, is how I look at it.
Which bar has a 450-200=250 bath barfine ??
    Read carefully Dutch.
The taxis they pimp inside with taxi signs and pretty girls are 600 baht minimum usually. As Stogie said it usually the first scam tourists are hit with.

That same ride in a metered taxi that you catch upstairs at departures drop off is only 200 baht. So if you do the math again that will save 400 baht on the average ride to Sukhumvit (Nana) thats still a barfine in some places mate or 4 beers if Nana would be closer to 400 baht.

Upstairs catching taxi at departures = 200 baht

outside catching taxi at arrivals metered = 400 baht

Inside, well dressed taxi sign carrying touts = 600 baht

I should note when you go upstairs you have to cross the median, however these drivers will be looking for you to get a quick turnaround since they just dropped off customers. Metered downstairs often has a long line.

I read it carefully. I always take the 400 bath taxi.

up to mate, I choose to go upstairs, walk outside across the median to a taxi that just dropped off travellors and be on my way. No ques, no waiting, and a 200 baht ride to Nana.

While I'm on the road, you will be in the que with several other travellers waiting for your 400 baht ride. that is if you didn't get lured by the well dressed smoking hot Thai woman with the taxi sign. The ones who approach you when you come out of baggage claim. That will cost you 600 baht up.

I have done all three mate, and the cheapest option is also the quickest. so its not just a matter of money either.

I have to agree with that. Once you know where you are going it's much faster to pop upstairs and get a cab and it's only 130 baht to my house instead of the 400 the cancerous twats downstairs try to rob from me.

When enough board members get drunk and suicidal enough we should round up a bunch of us and go to the airport with placards offering to escort fresh faced tourists to Bangkok for 200 baht and assist them upstairs to all the waiting METER cabs.

I reckon we should have enough fight in us for an hour or so!

It's a shame that the spineless and corrupt airport officials don't exterminate this scum along with the famously over priced King Duty Free shops that are so bad.

I guess they are just another pet peeve to the long list.

Its annoying as, wading through those Taxi vultures. Now I always engage with the hottie while I'm walking towards the people mover. she tries to charm me for a ride (not that kind unfortunately) while I ask her if she thinks I was born yesterday. It amazes me how long she will walk with me although I show no indication of taking her bait.

i wonder what percentage of people in need of taxi's end up taking them because they are the 1st in line? I would guess over 50 %

Had to check out that King Power Duty Free on one of my 1st trips. I couldn't find a bargain in the place, and since I went with lb, had to get out quick before she wanted something. Its not that easy of place to find and get into if you don't know where it is I found.

Don't waste your time or money at this place.

However by just going upstairs to departures you can easily catch a taxi that just dropped some on off...
                Hi,
arriving on April 7 in the morning time. How to go upstairs with a lot of luggage. Is there any elevator or do I have to carry all my luggage up the stairs?

There's an escalator that's easy to find...

Out of interest; why are you bringing so much luggage? Are you moving here?

Golden rule of traveling to Thailand...

Bring half as much luggage as you think you'll need... and twice as much money!

They have elevators as well that you can easily fit a luggage trolley on. You get those trolleys at baggage claim for free.

The escalators are moving sidewalk types, not steps. You can fit you trolley on them easily as well. When you get up top and go outside look to your right and see the metered taxis. They are across the first lane. Keen drivers will actually be looking for you, and be more than willing to assist you with your bags. Just make sure you establish that your on meter rate.

Once I had one try to get an extra 100 baht on top of meter after arriving at my guest house. I asked why and he said for airport tax? I told him he didn't have to pay it, so I'm not either. He was happy to take his meter fare only. For him it was worth a try, thinking the average farang doesn't know any better.

Doubt you'll fund them off the shelf but plenty of places to get custom cloths made.

Does the Meter Rate include the toll fees or do I have to pay this extra on top?

Toll fees are extra, but you can ask the driver to take the regular roads too. If the traffic is ok, it only takes around 10-15 min longer.

When you get to the top floor which is departures, you just cross these lanes of traffic. you can actually see the taxi's who have just dropped off people sitting with open doors waiting on the suave travellor.

In my case I had a driver searching me out, and on the way to taxi did the usual questioning of meter. 190 baht to Nana.
