Would like to recommend to everyone arriving and needing a taxi to avoid people offering taxi service outside baggage and arrivals.
For an example if you going to Nana, Sukhumvit they will charge you around 600-700 baht. If you go outside to get a metered taxi, they have to pay an airport tax straight away. This journey can be up to 450 baht.
However by just going upstairs to departures you can easily catch a taxi that just dropped some on off. Just insist on metered and this same trip can be done just under 200 baht. don't let them try to add on a service charge or airport tax, becuase they didn't have to pay it, by not getting in that que downstairs. I had a driver who tried to charge an extra 100 baht for this but backed right down when I said service charge at arrivals not departures.
I have done this several times now, and it basically saves you that nights barfine, is how I look at it.
cheers,
Arrived on the 11th of Jan and took a cab from downstairs. 50 is prob the airport tax and 70 is toll. Went to Majestic Suites. Once we got near Sukhumvit, he did all kinds of turns as there is no left on SV. I guess it all came up to 350 total, but the cab driver asked for 400. Well, I gave him the 400 and considered the mark-up his tip. I assume unless you do this frequently, you always end up paying a few Baht more. But it was ok ...

That's great! Could save some pennies...
I'm arriving on the 6th of March
It's slightly inconvenient but if you go to the top floor (Arrivals) go out the hangar and across the road and skip the red and white barrier then you'll get a METER taxi right away. If you have plenty of luggage then you'll have to walk to one end of the barrier but you'll still get a taxi quick and honest.
The touts in the airport are all carrying name tags and IDs and placards and pimping pretty girls in uniforms to solicit fares...
All scamming vermin. Just pop upstairs and outside and get an honest one.
It's amazing that the government allows all the tourists to be scammed the very minute they get off the plane! Just goes to show you what they really think of us.
