  • Canturbury tales in Pattaya...

hi guys i was speaking to a guy here in galway last night who is married to a thai gg for 6 yrs now and he told me if i ever get to pattaya to find "Canterbury Tales" (Soi Chiayapoon off Soi Buakaow) and ask for the owner called dave who is married to a thai gg who is high up in the police force there.

well any of you guys who go to pattaya, know the place i am asking about and if so please any info would be appreciated thanks

I know the place, it is in Soi Chaiyapoon on the left side as you travel towards 3rd Road. It is a bit of a hang out & meeting place for ex pats living in Pattaya on a shoe string.
I understand it serves good food and operates an extensive library of second hand paperback books.

Never been in there myself, although perhaps I should because occasionally I stop off for a fry up at Crazy Dave's which is close by.

Dave (of Canterbury Tales, never met Crazy Dave next door) is a very friendly guy well suited to the hospitality business.

Canterbury Tales is well known for their high quality English breakfast which until very recently was priced at a bargain basement 65 baht but is still a good deal at (I think) 90 baht.

There's a guesthouse upstairs too with rooms for about 600 baht.

        here's a link Sean......

Hi Sean, I eat there quite regularly, they do good food, great breakfasts.  The owner sells lots of books, both new and second hand.
They also have rooms for rent upstairs.  It usually closes early for Pattaya, only once saw it open after 9.00 pm.

Not sure what else you want to know, tell me and hopefully I can fill you in more.

Thanks PigDogg and BB I was trying to figure out exactly where it is and how far from soi 13/1 e.g La Bamba bar is it, and if u know what kind of area is it in, like is it a tourist area or not well-known area.

These are simple things to some guys but when i do go to los i would like to spend at least 1-2 nights there, but i want to make sure that the neighbourhood is safe.

            Thanks again guys

              Its perfectly safe.
You know where Pook Bar on soi Bukaow is ?
If you walk south from Pook Bar about 100m you'll reach an intersection on your left, from there there are two streets one at 45 degrees one at 90 degrees. Take the one at 45 degrees and Canterbury Tales is 20m down on the right.
BTW Soi Chiayapoon is also known as Soi eXcite

Hi Snick, what kind of club's bars and entertainment is down in that area, is it like the regular stuff or in the more extreme kind of things.

                Thanks again

You mean at Canterbury Tales Sean

The place is basically a small cafe come bookshop (hence the name ) good for a bite to eat during the daytime but not the place for a night out .

Dave the owner is a nice guy , myself and Piggdog enjoyed his hospitality one afternoon , unfortunately it was a pretty sombre occasion that we attended for .
Free your mind and your ass will follow .

By the time you get to LOS,Canterbury Tales will have been knocked down and replaced by an intergalactic bus stop.

Snick's geometry is right on but what he meant to say is that the soi at the right angle is Soi Chiayapoon but the soi at the 45 degree angle is Soi Xcyte.

Btw-Soi Xcyte has many 100 baht Thai and foot massage places while a football field away on Soi Buckow the same same massage is 200 baht.

A picture tells a thousand words Sean. This pic was taken as I came off Soi Buakhao. You can see Cant. Tales straight ahead on the left, and in pic 2, the place itself.
