Whats the feeling amonst you Falangs?

To all you crusty old falangs sitting in Guess bar and others discussing politics.....

I am due to fly into BKK on the 10th December. My guess is the Thais are too progmatic to allow the tourist industry to suffer for long, and that they will get the airport emptied of protesters by this weekend.

    What's the word there?
    Is la revolution happening?
Will the Airport be opened allowing foxxee to come and play?
Will the army step in yet again?
SHOULD the army step in yet again?
Are the girls discounting due to a lack of trade?

I have had more than a few LB's ringing me for money this week and for once I can sympathise... it must be killing them. No falangs = no money for family or rent etc.

Are they discounting? I love a price war.

Really interested to hear what you local members have to report. I know there are many of us on our way, and I am lucky, I am only an hour away. I pity the guys who have waited all year to come from the UK or US.
Not much goodwill for PAD from them.

I'd like to know as well.
I did hear from a friend who lives in Bangkok, and said all is normal except the airports. He too thought the problems would soon be over, but one never knows until it is truly over.
Sorry, I'm a bit buzzed from drink and herb...
    Cheers.

From a crusty old farang sitting in

The PM (Mr Somchai Token Shinawatra) is hiding in Chiang Mai, visiting Udon Thani supporters, and expressing the view that it is only a few isolated places that PAD are disrupting   .  Yeah, the airport sure is isolated!

I suppose a government's main duties are to secure the country's borders (!) .... and (in a civilized society) uphold Law & Order. Think they overlooked that one    Wunch of Bankers!!

Hey, maybe SomchaiWatra will declare a new Lanna state up north! And allow the original Watra back from HK? Chiang Mai is due to host the Asean conference in 2 weeks time.  New Asean member - led by Taksin the Great (not)?

      Sorry ... losing the plot!

Pragmatic, yes.  Rational thought? ... mmmmmm

A BKK Airport official reports that it may take a week to reopen the airport AFTER the protesters leave, because the computers etc are 'compromised'. (c'mon, how long does re-booting take?)   But it won't open without some delay, that's for certain.

So I've made some contingency travel plans, to return to Land Of Frowns next week, via Singapore - if my weekend Qatar flight can't make it to Suvarnabhumi.

And while I'm making my first visit to Singapore .....  I might go hunting for the Stringfellows crowd ... where are you May?

BANGKOK, Thailand (CNN) -- Anti-government protesters said Monday they would abandon their three-month siege of the Thai prime minister's main offices in Bangkok and join thousands of fellow demonstrators who have occupied the city's main airport.

If the Thais in power were worried the leas bit about the tourist industry (never mind rule of law), they would not have let this thing go as far as it has. Those with the REAL power (the army) either is sympathetic or supports the PAD wankers. Also IMHO the Royals can sort this out if they wanted but guess what, they support the PAD. The way I see it, the PAD cannot win an election so they resort to these sorts of tactics. They (the powers that be) could have nipped this in the bud when these maniacs took over the TV station in August. Had they cracked some heads then, it would not have escalated. Someone is bankrolling all this. The scuttlebutt is that these bussed in protesters get a hefty stipend for spending their time protesting. I wonder who that might be..............
            Be careful out there!

But I bet it takes a while for the airport to get back to full capacity
