To be fair to the various bureaucracies who put out these lists, they now err on the side of hyper-caution.

After the Bali bombing in 2002, the public and media lambasted the government/s for not posting warnings, so we now have overkill. The best I have seen is a warning for Brunei, which included the quote "avoid nightclubs" - I have yet to see a nightclub anywhere in the "abode of peace"

India should be about number 20 something on that list - as should Thailand - Pakistan should be in the number 7 spot.

Who compiled it anyway? - a Thai politician?

Same thing happened to me during the first Golf War. The US and UK labelled Thailand as being a terrorist haven which put Thailand on the second spot on the list to Iraq, which put me out of business. The CIA were picking up Arabs around Bangkok without the consent of the Thai government, which led to the US ambassador and CIA agents being kicked out of Thailand, and replaced. MI5 was busy buying drinks in Bangkok bars, for any one that came from N. Ireland, and asking stupid questions.

It's crazy Thailand made it to number 7 on that list.

I sooner walk round anywhere in Thailand than through Brixton, Hackney or White City after dark.

What a bunch of shit. How come major american cities like Detroit or Washington DC aren't listed, or areas of Los Angeles like Compton?

I run a greater risk of violence venturing out my doors here in Seattle than in most cities I've ever traveled to internationally. That's the story that's not being told.

I think I've figured it out! It's based on how likely you are to have an accident walking along the footpath (sidewalk).

The state of some of them around Bangkok would easily make it number 7 on the list.

Even in Siam Square they have huge holes, bits of cable trunking sticking out and low overhangs to catch the unwary (and tall) as you try to watch where you put your feet.
Add to that the chances of getting run over by a motorbike or car - yes on the sidewalk!

                    Welcome to Thailand

How the hell could Thailand be rated more dangerous than Algeria? If Thailand does have occasional problems with foreigners-it's because there are foreigners everywhere in Thailand. This is just poor information.
