  • Bars closing 14th - 16th November?

Hi everyone, I will be in Phuket 15th -21st November but I understand that there may be bar closures due to the royal cremation. Does anyone have any information on this? Thanks, joolz

We won't know till the day it happens but a good guess would be that the whole country will close down for a minimum of 3 days... and nights!

That doesn't bode well! I guess there will still be plenty of freelancers to be found, do the bars shut or just stop serving alcohol and keep the music down?

The freelancers will all be at home. It's a time of national mourning. I don't think you have a grasp of the significance of the event!

The King's sister past away 6 months ago, the royal cremation will be on the 14th with other ceremonies following.
The current rumor is bars closed 14-16, but this has not been confirmed by the police yet.

                  From the Bangkok Post:

The government has declared three days of national mourning during the cremation ceremony for Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, from Nov 14 to 16.

People are asked to dress in black and entertainment venues asked to cooperate and cease entertainment activities during that period.

That's normal, funerals in Thailand consist of a week of memorial services with the body lying in state (open casket the first day, sealed the following days). The body is then stored on the Wat grounds for a period of time where it naturally dehydrates; afterward there is a cremation ceremony.

The time that the body is stored varies, 100 days is normal. But in this case it was 9 months.

Interestingly, if the person died suddenly and unexpectedly (like a car crash), then the waiting time is extended to give the (lost) spirit more time to find the body.

                        Hi!
Today I have read a disturbing information about the national mourning in Thailand that is planned on 14-16th of Nov this year.
I am very unhappy to find out that the member of the royal family has died but also because I am planning to arrive to Bangkok on 15th!
                        My plan was as follows:
15.11 - arrival to BKK (evening)
                        PARTY!
                        16.11 - PARTY PARTY
17.11 - transfer to Pattaya for some sun, fun and relax
21.11 - back to Thailand - weekend lb bars cruise
                        24.11 morning - leaving Thailand.

As I know many of you live in Thailand - I would like to ask you if you have any comments for this trip plan - especially in the light of national mourning.
Your advices would be HIGHLY appreciated
                        Regards
                        Adam

                              ;-)))))))
                              Thanks a lot.
Do you think that if i decided to go to Pattaya on 15th it would be easier to find an opened place for a party there?
I have already booked a bed supperclub in BKK for 15th - I suppose that the party will be cancelled ;-(*
