I've only been to Bangkok, Pattaya, and Hua Hin. I would choose Hua Hin because there are more watersports there, but since it's not on the list, I'll choose Bangkok.
Hopefully I'll be out to Phuket next year so I can perhaps switch my choice to that.
Not been to Samui yet (maybe Foggy will encourage my first visit ... hint, hint). But I like all the others. I particularly enjoy the vibes in Chiang Mai (soft) ... but I voted Bangkok (hard).
Some guide books say 'only spend a couple of days in BKK' .... well I've spent months there, on and off, and never tire of the place (or that walk into Obsessions ).
I'm plucking up the courage (and energy) to spend a whole week in Pattaya ... but you can guess I'm a lightweight .... Perhaps I need to talk to Big Tel
well, I was aware both were islands, I've been going to 'em since the 90's...the title should have said which Vacations Destination in Thailand for the nit-pickers but that seems a bit unwieldy compared to 'city'
anyway, looks like BKK may be the winner........... no surprise to me as it's one of the best places in the world, but this board seems kind of pattaya-slanted overall when you read the threads.
voted for chiang mai because for me it is more laid back, cheap, and has just enough nightlife to stop me going insane. I think chiang mai has more of a "thai" feel to it. I do love bkk as well, it's such a vibrant city. Patts is just about sleaze(of which i do indulge occasionally)
