  • Anyone know where to buy vinyl in LOS?

Hi, weird topic but here goes - I have a hobby business buying and selling vinyl records, and if I can buy old vinyl records while on my trip to Thailand (Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya) I can write part of the trip off as business. Also, I LOVE asian vinyl so if I can find records while there it will definitely make the trip more fun.

Anyone got ideas on where I can find used vinyl records in BKK, Phuket or Patts? In the USA and Europe you find them all the time in thrift stores ("charity shops") and at specialized music collectors stores. What's the best bet in Thailand?

The more specific the information you can provide the better. I'm indebted to you for your assistance!

First place that springs to mind is Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok.

    I found this via a google search;

    RQ Records
    Detail : Foreign Music (CD)
Address : Jatujak Weekend Section 26 Soi 34/8 No. 236-237
    Tel : 0868841045

    Worth a try anyway.

    Cheers

Fortune Town may still have some shops, they used to have about half a dozen, but a lot have closed.

i m a vinyl collectors and in banhkok i was able to find old vinyks at fair prices

yes, you can found some shop in fortune hotel mall on rachada pisek but their prices are outrageous ever if they have some japanese edition in vinyl most of record started at 800 baths
Chatuchak is a wasted time... but do not avoid other flea market all around bangkok
Good amount of record can be found in chinatown during the week end market, prices are from 50 baths to 300 baths max,
many shop owned by chinese have some old vinyls records on charoen krung not so far from uruguay embassy
but by far the best vinyls record shop in bangkok and probably in thailand is tunchabab record shop near sanam luang...across the klong...i loosed the business card but this shop have internet website for more informations..the owner speak reasonable english and the shop is open 7/7 from 9am to 5pm...prices are printed on each records in general 7 inch=50 baths,12 inch single=100 baths, lp= 350 to 450 baths...if you buy large amount you will have discount easily, you can also payed with Us dollars...
Jakarta is probably the best plave in south asia for old vinyls, cheap and quality records.;singapore is too expansive
          good luck

WOW! Great info, and thanks for forwarding that. If you can put me in touch with the originator I'd love to chat more about his vinyl expeditions. If not, this info is very helpful and thanks much.

I've seen vinyl in the weekend market, caught my eye because in a former life I was a dj and collector...then along came pro-tools and Live...also have seen indie cd shops around the RCA area and Khao San that have small selection. Find some musicians and djs and they'll be able to enlighten you.

For what it is worth, there is a bar in patpong that specializes in vinyl records. It's on soi 4 down on the left side, possibly "The Balcony" or near it. You can browse their collection and put something on.

Hi D.T., sorry this is a little late, just got back from a "trips to do before you die" run.

The best/only place in Bkk for your needs is the Toncharba Record Shop in the Rattanakosin district, Royal Palace ect: Get to the Royal Hotel, very well known place, facing the hotel entrance head off right, down Atsadang Road, (it runs parallel to the narrow khlong,) for a few hundred metres and you will find the shop on the corner of Atsadang and Boonsiri, its on the left. The guy who runs the place is Khun Prakarn, "Tiger," a great guy who ive been dealing with for years, knowledgeable and fair allthough it will help if you speak Thai. He has in stock well over 100,000 pieces covering all ages and styles. If you dont have any joy here its A Hong Kong trip. Good hunting
