  • Me and 6,018 friends to Pattaya 9/12

For those going to Pattaya this weekend, thats Sept 12, it might get a little bit crowded.

According to my new favorite blog, A USA Carrier group is making an R&R visit.

U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and destroyer USS Russell are set to make a port call in the Pattaya area Sept. 12-16, barring any escalation of the Thai political crisis in Bangkok. The ships have a combined complement of 6,018 men and woman, most of whom will be unleashed for part or all of the four-day €œrest & relaxation€ visit.

I was in Pattaya last Novemebr (I think it was) when US servicemen were on R&R. They were, to a man, very well-behaved and generally off the streets by midnight.

Talking to some bargirls, they informed me that the army authorities have really cracked down on any shenanigans and its rare to be barfined by a serviceman nowadays. No idea if this is the case but interesting nonetheless and borne out by my observations at the time.
    No honey, no money!!

Damn...I am planning on going over this weekend...
I'd wager though that neither the Navy nor Marine boys will want to be seen hanging with an old Army dude looking for ladyboys...

But as Abe himself once wrote, "Leave nothing for tomorrow which can be done today."

I think I'll go find a ladyboy today too...

Most of the enlisted men are curfewed to midnite, the Senior Petty Officers to 1 am and the officers 2 am normally. This is to stop them getting back pissed at the same time and avoiding potentialconflicts. Personally I think the Officers should set the example and leave early but life sucks. They are filled up with all sorts of horror stories about STDs, the perils of drink, etc and the threat of being confined to ship at the next port has a calming effect on them. Bearing in mind their ships are dry unless at sea for more than 100 days (when they can have one whole beer if the Captain deems it fit!) they don't want to ruin their time ashore.
I couldn't give a shit how long it is until you're next holiday- I live here

On the evening of September 12th there's an outdoor Issan Music Festival on 3rd Road between Pattaya Klang (Pattaya Central Road) and Pattaya Nua (Pattaya North Road).

Admission is 100 baht and eats and drinks are dirt cheap.

So bring a group of ladyboys and let's have a party.

The Marines might be found on the shores of Triopli but I'd be quite surprised if they showed up on 3rd Road.   I've never seen American servicemen cause any trouble in Pattaya but they tend to hang out on Walking Street or Soi PattayaLand 2 if u wish to either avoid them or buy them a drink.
