(manarak @ Sep. 02 2008,21:25) I have a strange body too, that explains the strange setup!
Fair call mate, that explains a lot although i must say a 7 handicap is quite an achievement taking into account your build. Play well and enjoy your golf in los .
Hear all, see all, say nowt, well not much anyrode.

I play in Bkk pretty regularly when I am here

Bangkok Golf course Mahboonkong is nice, but it helps to go with someone who is a member as it cuts your cost a lot

In Bkk, Unico is not bad and not expensive

outside of Bkk one of my favorite trips is to go to Greenwood and play, then drive to Bkk for some soi 6/1 fun and then back to Greenwood the next morning ..

if someone wants to hook up for golf, let me know .. I am here for the month of Sept .. then back from Dec 1 to Jan 20

you can rent clubs but they are not the greatest, couple of guys I have played with have used my g/f's clubs.. a bit short for most, but not bad clubs ..

bringing your own is not too bad, get a hard travel case and they will be fine

(PigDogg @ Aug. 17 2008,02:17) Should a serious golfer bring their own clubs for a 2 week trip to Pattaya?  A buddy of mine wants to know.
i have a buddy (hdcp 13) wondering the same thing.
carrying *any* luggage over the pond is such a pain in the ass,
Carrying clubs is not a problem. Try to see it in a positive way.

First. The distance to the USA. No problem, it is in the hold all the way, you dont see them until you arrive at BKK.

OK, then you have to put them on your trolley and push it to your pickup, where someone else will load it in the bus or car for you. So far so good?

Arrive Pattaya, you will see your clubs again as they are loaded to a local car.

You get the car to go to your hotel via Cafe Kronburg and get the driver to bring them into the bar and deposit them in the bag room.

So where exactly is the problem? Lets try to be positive.
        i positively agree
at least so far as getting the clubs from home to pattaya.
        no sweat. good plan. thanks.
        but...
what do i do with them after pattaya for the week or two in bangkok.
then the two weeks on koh samui.
then the couple weeks in bali while i refresh my visa.
        then a stop-over in phuket.
then here and there for a bit before returning to pattaya?
i guess i could leave them in pattaya...
don't mean to whine but i love traveling with no more than i can carry-on from flight to flight and golf clubs seem to curtail my intra-asian trips.

though right now the woe i'd suffer from having to lug golf clubs from one piece of paradise to the next sounds like delicious pain well worth the effort.
        guess i'd have to agree:

        just do it!

I highly recommend Lam Luk Ka while in Bangkok. It is a bit of a trek as it is near the airport, but a very nice course. Navatanee is also good. President is not bad, but I haven't played it for years. Always go to Pattaya for the golf. You can meet up for a competition at Lewinski's. Great folks.

looking at BKK from the satellite, there are a shitload of golf courses around bangkok.

Navatanee seems to be a good place.

How much is the all-included greenfee (without oily)?

and BTW... if someone wants to hook up, I'll be there from 5th of oct. until 17th.

I´ve brought my clubs around all over the world and it´s really a pain in the ass. Never got lost, but it´s just a hazzle at airports, hotels and taxi.
What hcp do you guys shoot anyways?

I believe Navatanee is member invite only nowadays although i have been lucky to play there on a couple of occasions, very nice layout but 18 holes here can take 5 to 6 hours if you get stuck behind a thai police or army 5 ball who fuck around like a bunch of old women. If u still want to give it a go here's the number 02-3761031. If it helps you out Manarak i can personaly endorse Alpine,Thai country club,Lakewood,Pinehurst,Lam Lukka,Watermill,Bangpakong riverside and Royal lakeside. All the above are well maintained, challenging layouts in the region of THB 2000 green fee. Good golfing mate.

Thanks a lot for the good info!

I'll check out some of the courses you mentioned, depending on which one gives me an OK.

manarak I played all of them as well and try Panna Park (spelling) also Alpine and Navatannee are great. I joined the Pattaya sports club and it was great. Also try Windmill. call the courses up and find out what days they have sporting day specials--great savings if you can play during the week. Thanks guys for the recommendation. I hooked up with some great groups from different bars and what great fun even though I played like shit. My bad back acted up on the flight and I could hardly walk until I went to the hospital in BKK which was great. I played at Phoenix and Bangna CC in Pattaya two great courses. I also rented clubs at Pattaya Sun Golf after I joined Pattaya Sports Club in South pattaya and they charged me 3000 Baht for the week. They were fine they were Taylor Made knock offs and if you dont feel like bringing your clubs I would rent

Not criticising, just providing information, but Lam Luk Ka is nowhere near either airport and yes is a good hours drive from Bangkok.

Up the outer ringroad going due North from Suwarnabhumi until you are north or the old airport and then head due east for another 10km or so.

Damn - I checked with Swiss, and they changed their rules for Golf bags.
Now it costs 110 CHF (about 100 USD) PER LONG-HAUL FLIGHT.

I think the airlines should instead continue to tax the economy travelers for our golf bags!
