English Visa requirements for thai lbs

Dear All

I have done a short search and nothing came out in the travel forum, that is why I start a new topic:

I would very much appreciate it if someone or many could please tell me what are the papers needed to invite a Thai (or any) LB in London...

I am about to accept an new job offer there and thus move to London.

For example to invite a thai LB to Europe (schenkel agreement) you need all the following papers:
1) Registered Address (contract of apartment, registered in the municipal/town hall)
2) Contract of job - supply evidence that you will be able to maintain the invited person
3) official Letter of invitation by the town hall/police stations in some countries
4) personal letter of invitation written and signed by you expressing that you will take care of all expenses etc
5) booked flying ticket with closed dates
6) travel insurance

Do I forget anything

Now if you want to import a Filipina LB you go to the British Embassy site in Manila.

I must warn you that the process is difficult - I also think that since some Embasies out-sourced the process, there may, possibly, be some slight evidence of favouritism (or corruption?).

Whatever, whether it is a GG or an LB or even a GM that you want to bring into the UK, it is extremely difficult .

I have come to (almost) believe that you have to be able to prove the person applying is a victim of persecution in order to enter the UK.

Er----um-----There is a woman in London whom (I suspect) brings LBs in illegally to work in the sex industry, but I assume that is not a route you would want to follow!

Diablo you should be aware there are TWO sets of criteria in UK - one for UK nationals (UK law) and one for European nationals (EU law) - EU law is MUCH easier to handle but it requires something like civil partnership done first. i would strongly advise looking at Thai visa.com - one of the sponsors is company called Davis Kahn - they are experts in UK immigration law especially for Thais (the owenr is married to a Thai) and he has a special thread PINNED to the forum about taking a Thai to another country - especially if you hold an EU passport as the laws are different and more relaxed than for a UK national.

another question which has been asked up here many many times through the years, as many guys would love to move their favorite Thai person to their home country ..... I still have no idea why when 99% of these moves end up in disaster and heartache.

If Jellybean's experience is anything to go by then here's the procedure...

1 - Apply for the visa for your 'teerak...'

2 - Expect to get turned down...

3 - Challenge the decision in court!

The courts will only listen to a legal argument that specifies written law and any attempts by British immigration to tell the court what they 'reckon' will happen in the future aren't a legal argument.

In fact immigration will not even show up to a court hearing because they know they will lose.

But the officials that govern this process will hassle and intimidate you for the whole wonderful ride so you had better be determined!

JaiDee is right that the process is an uphill battle, but with a little bit of knowledge and the will to see it through then it's actually a whole lot easier than you might think.

Jellybean applied for a spose visa I believe. One of the first comments I ever read said that they are difficult to get.

A tourist visa is easier but you need to do your homework and get all the papers together before you make the application.
The British Embassy website tells you all that you need. Thaivisa.com is worth a look but really does not tell you anything extra.


I don't know exactly what the differences are for someone from the EU who is not a UK resident.
But I suspect it will mainly come down to have you enough money to cover all her expenses.
You will have to prove this. Also the travel insurance would be a good idea but is not essential for the UK.


Also it's always better if you can show that your terak has travelled from and returned to Thailand before.
First do a short hop to somewhere like Singapore for 3 days - there are plenty of cheap trips on offer in Bangkok.
Then do a longer trip to somewhere further away.


Despite what most people think the embassy have NO interest in interviewing you. They only want to see the girl.
My ex-girlfriend had three UK visas in a row and they just looked at the paperwork I sent. I never went to the embassy once.

My girfriend will be visiting the UK in July for the third time. Despite having a passport full of immigration stamps from several countries her UK visa application was still initially rejected. She did finally get her visa by providing the following information:

Proof that she has a reason to return to Thailand - in her case proof that she owns a business and a property.

Proof of income from bank statements.

The UK immigration need proof that she can support herself whilst in the UK - a minimum of 50,000 bhat is required plus travel insurance.

An itinerary for when she is in the UK

Proof of a relationship with me - photos are a good example.

I also had to provide the information and paperwork detailed on the UK Embassy website.

Getting a visa for the UK is more difficult than a Schengen visa. If you require any more information PM me.

Unfortunately about 2 years ago the Visa Section of the British Embassy was farmed out to a private company.
It's now somewhere near the Fortune Tower shopping mall.

Most of the application is dealt with by Thai's with a limited British presence  -  whereas before it was 50/50.
They do seem less inclined to interprerate the rules now.

My Ex had no business, only one small piece of farm land (nearly worthless!), no fixed income and she never had travel insurance for the UK.

The first application was all done in 3 days flat  -  no problem.
The second one I did not realise that you have to re-submit ALL the paperwork again  -  I can only guess that their record keeping must be non-existant!    
With all the papers it was a rubber stamp excercise  -  they even asked exactly the same questions as the first time.  

The third application was at the new place.  A Thai girl was the inital interviewer and was 'less than friendly'.
It's always the Thai women that cause problems!    

I'm not sure if she called a supervisor or he just showed up but anyway a British guy arrived  -  took one look at the papers and said OK.
He even said that they would have granted a 5 year visa but the passport only had 3 years to run.
