  • Don't mess with Thailand!

The one that has been here the longest is from Scotland. He had a problem with his Thai girlfriend and was later robbed by her friends. On the way home, at the airport, he was really depressed and got drunk. He then got into an argument with the waiters. They started fighting and the guy from Scotland grabbed a knife from the counter top and cut the waiter€™s arm. Not too seriously. However, he is here now for attempted murder. He has been here for about five months and it will probably be a year before he goes to trial....
I was reading a blog about Thai prison life.

Nothing sensational but a 'matter of fact' daily account of one man's life in the 'monkey house.'

It's a grim reminder that once you are arrested for breaking the law your life can very quickly turn to shit...

Think about that when you come here. It's simply not worth having your life destroyed by doing something that you know is against the law.

The following testament is written by someone who was on Death Row for a while.

As he is still in Bang Kwang he wishes to remain anonymous.

€œMost times we did not know when they were coming. Sometimes they would lock us down early but would use an excuse like important visitors were coming into the building. They would tell us that we had nothing to fear and that we should remain calm. They would always come at 4:30 p.m. and the sound of the steel bars and chains being unlocked and removed from the door would strike fear and terror into the hearts of every man on the Row.

The trouble was that those men who had exhausted all possible avenues of reprieve and were on the €˜Blacklist€™ were spread equally amongst each of the 20 or 50 cells. There were usually 3 €“ 4 blacklisted guys in each cell so of course when we would hear the block door being unlocked the entire block would fall into a fearful silence. Even those guys who knew it wasn€™t their time would be overwhelmed with fear because of the hysteria generated.

Fear is infectious and each time was mental torture because we all knew that some day it would be our turn. The group of five or six Special Officers would walk slowly up the aisle until they reached the cell that contained the guy whose god had finally called him. There would be a kind of vacuum in the block where every condemned man had breathed in and failed to exhale again. We could all, every last one of us; hear our own hearts beating so loudly in our chests that it was deafening.

The man would be called to the cell door, handcuffed then led away to oblivion. You could cut the relief with a knife but what a terrible relief. Another of us had gone forever.

I saw 21 men go this way during my time on Death Row. Every last one of them walked calmly and silently to their fate.

In their heads and hearts they were already dead.€
That's some pretty grim reading, eh? Brrrrr!

        Yep I agree 100%.

We are quite lucky really as the Thais seem to tolerate us lot a fair bit , proably a bit more then  we are at our own country's.

Respect their laws and play with in the boundries and all will continue to be fun.

Some people like to go to these prisons to visit farang prisoners.

Has anyone done that or know someone who's done it?

If, so what was it like?

Know someone how's done it. But I'm kind of lazy typing the whole story. He visited an old man...

                    - Thai wife riped the guy off after 20 years (!)

                    - Guy lost everything

                    - Got pissed, killed her

                    - Prison

                    Pretty shitty...

almost all farangs that get the death sentence get their penality reduced. first to life in prison, then after 5-15 years they usually are pardoned by the king and go home and sentence a few years in prison in their home country.
it has been quite popular to visit the prisones these days, and the prisoners have somewhat become a tourist-attraction for "caring" tourists.
quite honestly i'm sick of all the complaining from these prisoners. nearly all foreigners are serving sentences from drugs offences. they all knew the risk, the severity of the sentences and the harshness of prison life in thailand. i sometimes wonder that they want to be caught, so they too can write a book whne they get out and get famous, or sit in their local boozer finally have something interresting to jabber about.
