The Monsoon Season...

Been to LOS in April-hot but able to go out somewhat
been to Los this past Dec-wonderful
now planning to spend 2 months there-maybe Aug and Sept
need the heads up from some expats as what to expect.
Will I be locked up inside all day to avoid the heavy rain How long do they last and do they go on for days?

Not too sure if the monsoon in LOS is similar to SG's. But in SG, when we get the rains, it really pours for the entire day, weeks on end.

With very strong winds at times.

So even with an umbrella, you get rain coming at you at around 45 degrees. So you'll still get wet around the lower torso area. And we also see a higher incidence of traffic accidents due to the poor visibility.

Jesus...more naysayers...it's not bad...it's warm...it rains...carry an umbrella...you'll be fine...

Buy lots of umbrellas...they're 49 baht at Watsons...you'll lose them every day...Enjoy...

Bangkok in the rainy season is heaven. One or two brief showers daily, 20 minutes max--they appear suddenly and disappear just as quick. Cools off the city, freshens the air making the other 23 hours out of the day nice. Love it. Traffic jams during rains, but I only use the trains.

Climate in the islands of the south is a much different story but note the monsoon season on the eastern seaboard (Samui) is a different time period than the western (Phuket) so visit there accordingly.

You do get the odd day where it will rain heavily for 3-4 hours and the streets get flooded enough to snarl up the traffic.

You may well see one or two of those days in a 2 month stay but that is all I would expect.

Otherwise as the others have posted take an umbrella  -  or pick one up for about 100 Baht in a 7-11 or Family Mart.

Agreed with the LOS regulars posting above.  It is much better than you might imagine, although when it rains it makes Songkran seem dry.  I can't remember an 'all-day' rainstorm, and you can usually see it building up around 4pm.

When it actually starts raining, umbrellas are 150 baht at the end of Soi 4 !!!  And it gets renamed 'Khlong 4' after an hour or two....

i been in Phuket during rainy season and had 7 days straight non stop rain... street flowing with water....so much so i ended up walking barefoot as thongs just weren't practical

But it never stopped me having a great time....


As specially with Tootsie Massage down in phuket, there are much worse ways to fill in a rainy day

in Bangkok. Sept + Oct is the worst,and you might get an all day rain. But otherwise its fine.

What's the weather like in Mid November? Will I be able to enjoy the beach and the sea in Pattaya, or shall I have only to shag ladyboys and girls in my room all the time?

Normally by mid-November the showers are thinning right out and the temperatures are starting to fall again.

Pattaya might get the odd shower more due to it's location but they will almost certainly be short and probably late evening/early night time.

Two years ago I was in BKk on September and it was a nightmare. half of the Sois in the city had at least one foot of water.
Everybody were always arriving an hour (or more) late due to the floods.
One evening wanted to go out from the hotel after dinner and there was literally a lake outside the hotel. Had to wait till 11 to be able to step out and catch a taxi.
Now, if that is fun for some of you..please enjoy

Thanks guys--I think I will go June- July.Airfares r less.Any less rain?Also anyone know the exchange rate for the dollar lately?The intl rate differs with the in country rate
