  • Transport Services at Suvarnabhumi Airport

Seems that from reading up on the new airport there are tons of options for transport upon arrival in BKK.

The questions are which option is avaiable when you land and where are you going?

For example the train sounds great but it will not be complete until Oct 2008 for transport to BKK.

Friend coming in from overseas but there plane does not land until 12 midnight so Belle bus is out.

Any of you guys have ideas for a trip to Pattaya from the new airport with an arrival at midnight?

Best Idea I could offer was a Meter Taxi for 1200 plus.

Any additional ideas would be a plus and for any guy with a late landing, thanks

Zip upstairs to arrivals and jump a taxi there - you should be able to get it for 2-300baht less. last time i did this tho was in Dec, mega fuel price increases lately may cut down on the bargains. Rumour mill is that diesel could be up to B40 per litre this year which will have a knock on effect for a lot of things.
I couldn't give a shit how long it is until you're next holiday- I live here

I called both the numbers for Mr. Toom seems neither work.  Is he still in business?

He was a good reliable mode from Airport to Pattaya for about 1200, last year anyway.

From what I saw of the BTS link to the airport 2 months ago I have little doubt that it will be ready by October this year.

I would question how quickly they can install and test the electrical and electronic equipment as time seems a lttle short for that.
As it's Siemens doing it and it's not their first installation of this type in Thailand I expect they are well aware of any potential problems.

I do wonder why the airport website page has apparently not been updated since late 2006

Yep, one more big vote for Mr. Toom.

He's never let me down. Responds quickly by email and the driver is always there - even one time when my flight was four hours late. They also make the smart move of telling you to meet the driver at a point that's well away from the huge scrum of other drivers. All the drivers go quickly but not crazily, they know their way around Pattaya, so you're never driving round looking for the hotel, and they know which alternative routes to take if a road is busy.

Fare is 1200 all inclusive but I usually give a 100 or even 200 tip, which might be over the top but after the flight and the immigration drama, it's just such a relief to get great service like that.

By the way, it might not be so easy now to do the dodge of going up to the departures floor and getting a taxi from there that's just dropped off. It worked fine at Don Muang but at Soovarnaboo they have airport employees in cars and on scooters who hassle the cabbies, blaring their horns and blowing whistles, to make them shoot straight off after dropping their passengers.

SRT Governor Yuthana Thapcharoen (ยุทธนา ทัพเจริญ) stated that the Suvarnabhumi€™s airport link project and its inner city terminal stations are now 92% complete. The engineering and trains for the link have mostly been finished with only public utilities left to be added. The system is expected to be completed on schedule within February of 2009. A full systems check will run for 180 days before the planned opening of service on August 12th 2009.

From what i have seen this month its doubtfull they will be finished in februari. Maybe they get it running this year.
