(trentnsocal @ Apr. 05 2008,07:10) Thai Airways from LA to Bangkok non stop on the 777 jet was a great airline experience for me. The american based airlines are F'N garbage, lousy service, rude and nasty attendants, dont get me started...........
Not to nitpick, but I don't think you were on a 777 on TG from LA. If you were, it wasn't a nonstop flight since the 777 doesn't have nearly that kind of range. TG has used A340-500's on that route ever since they opened it, although maybe they occasionally have to substitute aircraft for maintenance reasons and make a fuel stop somewhere.

Some people like the A340-500 and some don't. It's a smaller aircraft than the 777 by quite a lot and, at least in business class, the seating is far less comfortable than a number of other airlines. Still, you're certainly right in what you say about US carriers. They are absolutely the worst.

Not sure about LAX, but the JFK-BKK non-stop uses Airbus 345.

Think that's what the Sing Airbus uses (it's now all biz class though).

The Sing configuration (as well as everything else) was superior to Thai.

If flying the Thai 345 Airbus non-stop do whatever you can to snag Row 44.

(rxpharm @ Apr. 03 2008,04:40) unfortunately becoming more common - for all frequent flyer programs.  If it is a discounted ticket less or even no mileage accumulation.

            I noticed that. Bastards!!!

I wouldn't really know to be honest Billy as I dont venture down them parts of Manchester.

I went to the "gay" village last year with Squirly, Stickfinger, Anthony70 and Cyp73 and saw a couple that were "worth one"

i thought i would give it a try this time round it also had nothing to do with me being in heathrow when the air crew for an eva air flight trooped past all where very pleasing to the eye

Here's the configuration for the JFK-BKK non-stop on Thai.  The legroom in Row 44 is not exagerated.

Regardless of which model i flew on, it was still a pleasant experience. I will definately fly Thai airways on my next trip to LOS, and you cant beat the nonstop.

This year I flew with Thai nonstop from New York to Bangkok in Premium Economy class. I only have good things to say about it and will fly again on this nonstop flight.

One thing who surprise me was that even if the flight is 17 hours I was less tired when I arrive in Bangkok compared to the usual flights I flew before with 2 stops. The same when I came back. On my two flights the seat next to me was empty so a lot of space for me.

If you fly on those Airbus 340-500 in Premium Economy avoid the first row of seat because the entertainement system displays are on the wall far from you and you need to have the right angle to have a good picture.

The Boeing 777-777-200LR has even greater range. Which model 777s Thai air owns I don't know.

According to Seat Guru they have some 777-200 ERs which I guess is the long range version.

I just checked the Boeing web site and Thai Air hasn't order anything directly from Boeing since they bought 6 B777-200ERs four years ago and the B777-200ER doesn't have the range (7,700 nautical miles) to make a non-stop flight, LAX to BKK.

The B777-300ER (range 7,930 n.m.) would be cutting it close.

The B777-200LR with a range of 9,400 n.m. (the longest range commercial aircraft in the world) could easily make the trip, but as they don't own the -200LR, they used what they had.
