      • Thought I would bump this up since I got my jetstar answers.

Does anyone have any feedback on these budget carriers in Thailand?

Also has anyone taken the flight from Phuket to Pattaya?

        Thanks.

Also has anyone taken the flight from Phuket to Pattaya?

          Thanks.
I have taken the flight from Phuket to Pattaya (U Tapao) on Bangkok Air. There was a quick change of planes in Samui. It's a 44 seat (as I recall) prop plane. It was an OK flight but not a lot of room for a carry on. Seating is a bit more cramped than your normal jet. But it isn't a terribly long flight. It's a quicker and easier drive to Pattaya from U Tapao than BKK but a car will charge almost the same price.

I have flown Tiger six times and AirAsia five times. Both are pretty good but there are no assigned seats. Legroom is a bit bad if you have long legs but I usually manage to get an exit row seat so have plenty of legroom.

Have flown JetStar once from Singapore to Phuket. They assign you a seat at the check in counter. It makes boarding a little more friendly. Check in fairly early if you want an exit row seat. Immigration took forever at Phuket. But I have only flown in to Phuket once internationally. So don't know if it is a common problem.

            • bumped this, since I'm back home all of 3 weeks from my last trip and already contemplating the next,
EVA has a sale for their club members including
heathrow to bkk for 495 lbs, about one-to three hundred dollars less than other carriers , but benefit of a non-stop flight, saving on average 7 hours
my tenative dates that i plugged in were from mid april returning mid may, dont know how long sale lasts though, back with the books around that time SB
Life is short. Live it well.

              • For those in the U.S. trying at this late date to book a flight on EVA AIR you can forget about getting their hot fares if you want to arrive in Bangkok after Christmas and the first three weeks of January. I waited too long and got shut out on Wednesday. No hot fares available but of course if I wanted to shell out nearly 1800.00$ I was on my way home. Now I am playing a waiting game and hope to see EVA open up some of those unsold seats in the next few weeks. Last year I had no problem when I booked this late to return to Thailand after a holiday visit with friends and family.

                  • Air Asia is having a pretty good sale right now with tickets from multiple destinations from within Thailand, as well as some limited places abroad, starting at 9 thb. Of course, by the time you add in all the taxes and fees they pile on top the fares reach about 1,800 thb (I'm quoting a BKK to Phuket RT ticket). However, that price is about half of what the regular priced fares are at.

The website says this is a limited offer and I must book my Sept 28th to get these discounts. I'm still on the fence about this, so not sure if I want to bite the bullet quite yet on this. My question is, how often does Air Asia have sales and is it likely I'll be able to snag a deal like this in the future? I'm planning my trip for mid January, so have a few months left.

                    • This popular Malaysian low budget set up is always advertising in the local English speaking dailies...

I think they are ALWAYS having a sale of one kind or another.

The choice should be is how badly do you want to secure your seat - not how much you want to pay.

If you are planning to come in mid-January I'd hold off for now.

                      • The sales are often, and the price is better, but not that much better. You may save 300, or even 1000 baht on the ticket BUT the taxes, fuel surcharges etc.. remain the same and can be over half the final price.

                        • Air asia has sales and then they have great sales - the latter are when they offer zero or near zero prices!

Pick them up when you can when you are scheduled to travel.

I picked up Australia to Malaysia return for $334 AUD for next year including taxes.

Can assure you i saved more than 1000 baht

                            • Yeah, that's true (domestic savings are about right).

I also picked up bkk-changmai return, bkk- phuket and phuket - KL for zero plus tax

Wish the old days before fuel taxes would come back....

I remember getting $19 AUD from Chang mai to KL

                              Air Asia rocks

                              • I'm not such a big fan of Air Asia, whenever I've flown them they are always late.

Snick - you are correct. All of those hidden charges and fees/surcharges actually more than double the quoted ticket price. But I assume that since those types of fees stay the same pretty much throughout the year (and probably only will go higher) that if I can save about 600-800 thb on the actual fare its just worth it to buy now.

Still on the fence, but I might just bite the bullet. I'm 90% sure I'm going anyways and even if I don't go, its only about $65 USD out of my pocket. However its good to hear that they have frequent sales. I think this one is pretty good, so I encourage all you fellas to check it out. The sale price tix are good from Jan 6 thru June, so if you can book in advance you might be able to save some nice coin!

Thanks for all the input guys!
