  • (Snick @ May 05 2010,11:54) I don't know if these are 'good' fares or not.
On first impressions they seem reasonable, however once you factor the limited travel dates available, and add all the various taxes and charges, it's really no huge saving.

Jetstar currently has an interesting promotion called "Take a Friend for Free", so in essence two people can fly from Melbourne to Bangkok for just over $800 AUD or $400 per person (return including taxes/charges).

    Cheers

    • Not that good at all Snick. Thai have the highest surcharge/tax of any airline. You can add 360 odd dollars to those fares ex sydney.
I have booked my ticket for July to august 38 days thru Flight centre and today can get $100 cheaper than website quote.

      Cheers DK

        • Recently bought my return ticket (June-July '10) with Thai Airways (Brisbane - BKK) and paid $1070.

Could have gone with Royal Brunei for $700 but would have a 4hr stop-over there and back.

Have never flown Jetstar or V Australia for International flights so can't comment on the service but I think I'll avoid Air Asia for those long-haul trips. The seats are smaller (or at least felt that way) and the meal was terrible. Very budget indeed.

          • I can not imagine there are many Aussies in Australia at the moment, London is full of them this time of the year

            • Mainly the younguns I'd expect..tell 'em to get a job !

Is Jetstar direct ? What's the service like ? I usually do Thai and can get that anywhere between $800 to $1200 (max) but usually close enough to a grand. Always found the service good on that route.

              • I believe that Jetstar only has two direct flights to Thailand. Melbourne to Bangkok and Sydney to Phuket.

Nah mate, believe it or not Australia is full of Aussies at the moment as well. I wish a few more would leave though, house prices here are ridiculous at the moment.

                    • I can only imagine that the Aussies in London cant afford the air fare back to Australia. Why would you stay there unless you had a high paying job or rich oldies.

Jetstar melb to bkk is not too bad - specially if you pick up a good price.
My main issue is the timetable & that I hate qantas

                          I hate them too

They have the only direct to Tokyo, paired with JAL. I had to suffer that for 5 years...stroppy service from both sides.
And London ? 24+ hours with fake tans and even faker condescending smiles ? No thanks

I'll stick with Thai I think, life's too short

Sorta dreading it, but Mel - Bkk return for $270 was too good to pass up if you are prepared to endure a stop over and small seats.
