Good info for next trip!! i lucked out as my ladyboy friend had a car so we drove as far as you can go on the south east side to long beach with rustic bungalows 200bht/night, the fuck you bar with 1 bottle of gin in it and a bunch of flower children smoking their brains out!! then over to ban salak phet to a sleepy village with a beautiful temple just set off from the mangrove swamps !! We also drank at Pearlers just 1 ladyboy working last april but low season was approaching she called herself #2 to me , i guess she wanted to be next in line just in case !! Next time will have to try the eastern side. I think that Salak village is the best place to snorkel and Kayak off the main island.
There is that small bay with 2 islands so it is quite sheltered from the open sea, worth a look next time.
There was 2 ladyboys working at Pearler bar this time and there looked to be a handful more throughout the bar complex.
It was not very busy there for November really although the main resorts were sold out.
The first time I went to Koh Chang there was still a disco in White Sand Beach.
I went there a couple times and there was quite a number of ladyboys hanging out there.
Sabay bar on the beach tends to have ladyboys come and go.
Koh Chang is far more relaxing than Phuket by far and cheaper.
Cha-am beach was really relaxing also but it was next to deserted.

The east side is pretty quiet no beaches that i saw till long beach and thats straight up and over 2 hills to the end of the island fairly remote i'd say!!
Salak is on the edge of the mangroves not ideal swimming unless your Steve Irwin, lots of shrimp farms and the temples worth seeing !!
Pearlers was my ladyboy friend's favourite watering hole she hit it off with the girls there and felt comfortable! Quite honestly i'm not good a spotting ladyboys unless they are 6' something and stand out so i didn't notice any and the one i thought was a hot girl was a ladyboy!!

South of Salak around that little bay are beaches and resorts including that long beach, I read it is a great place to snorkel and kayak.
Many of the resorts that bay do not have beach but they have piers to kayak from.
Unfortunately you cannot get over to that part of the island from the west side, the road dead ends, you have to drive from the top of the island down there, or take a boat over.
I had many great times at Pearlers bar and I like to party with the owner who used to be a pearl diver.
This time Pearlers had been sold and totally renovated, not as good as the original.
It looks like most of the ownership has changed in that bar complex, nothing looked the same so maybe it all got bought out.
Koh Chang is a favorite for Cambodians as it is right next door so I imagine they have a number of ladyboys from there.

So for our last day we had booked a half day snorkeling tour at some tour shop on main street.
It was 600 baht per person and they would pick us up at 9am at our resort and take us to Bang Bao pier included in the price.
This was a good deal since it was 150 baht each way to take a taxi to Bang Bao and there was even a simple lunch of chicken, eggs and rice included.
They picked us up on time and the boat left around 10am from the Bang Bao pier about half full, after we got back at 4:30 and were taken back to our resort by 5pm.
We were on a large colorful wooden boat with 2 water slides on the back, I didn't get a good full picture of the boat but one pic shows the slides.
They took us out to 3 islands south of Koh Chang. We first stopped at Lower laoya island to snorkel for a while before they headed for Koh Wai to the south.
On the way to Koh Wai they served lunch and then we moored just off the coast of Koh Wai in front of the rustic Koh Wai Beach resort.
After snorkeling and hanging on the beach here the took us out behind Koh Klum to try some fishing before taking us back to Bang Bao.
Overall the snorkeling was average because the water was very murky due to recent storms, plus this was not the prime snorkeling and scuba spots you can find.
However it was definitely the best snorkeling that I have done and saw coral reefs and various schools of fish, nice to get out around the small islands too.
I've seen reviews online that say it is not he greatest tour but for the price I think it is good value.
600 baht each including transportation from anywhere on the island, food and a full day even though they say it is a half day.
The actual company running the boats was called Mr. Khais tours.
You can also hire private speedboats on Koh Chang for a reasonable price.

So the boat headed south and they pulled up beside the small Laoya Island then moored near a shallow area where there was already another group in a speed boat.
There was lots of different things to see under the water but the island itself was just rocks and thick jungle with no real beach.

$18 for an all day snorkeling trip to two different islands plus fishing and lunch? Can't beat that! In the states something similar would cost 10X that. In fact, it reminds me of a snorkeling/nature tour I took recently on the Yankee Freedom high-speed catamaran from Key West to Dry Tortugas: all day, breakfast/lunch included, picked you up at 8 am and dropped you back at Key West at 5 pm. $175 for an adult ticket. And the trip didn't include a gorgeous ladyboy on deck to ogle all day long 5555.

Next we headed south to Koh Wai and moored right in front of the Koh Wai Paradise Resort.
This is a fairly remote resort with rustic bungalows with no power, I think they go for around 250 baht per night.
It has a really nice beach and is very good for snorkeling off the beach, they also have a large raft island you can swim from.
They brought a raft out so they could bring tons of ice to the resort so they must rely on the tour boats to bring them supplies.
This was a really nice spot and the island of Koh Wai looks pretty cool.

Last they took us to a fishing spot behind Koh Klum. Nobody caught much but it was fun.
After they took us back to the pier then back to our resort.
A nice cheap days adventure.

So the next day we had breakfast and got packed as out car was coming at 1pm.
We hung out by the swing at our resorting waiting for our ride. It was nice to see a luxury mini bus pull up to take us.
On the way to the ferry dock we stopped shortly at a nearby Chinese Buddhist temple, it was very nice.
Then off to the ferry and back to Bangkok.
A great romantic holiday with my lover.

Super review and report...sorry it's taken me 3 years to reply to it. It absolutely makes me want to go visit this island and I would definitely take the snorkelling tour excursion that you did. The description you gave was terrific along with the great photos...all the pictures were very good, but the ones on post #5 were amazing! Thanks for sharing.
