I've never been to Phuket.
Maybe time for a change of pace.

It is definitely worth a visit and not only for lbs. If you're into diving, adventure tours or quiet beaches (away from Patong), then it's a good alternative to the usual spots.

There are some challenges though - there is a strong taxi mafia (tuk tuks but not like Bangkok - these look more like a mini-truck) that charge inflated prices for transport. There have been efforts to break this mafia, but it still is present. Hopefully it will be successfully eliminated sooner rather than later.
