have been to phuket five times,always with my ex wife yes it is more exspensive than patts,and there are some very good beaches,but now that i am a single man again,patts is much more fun .so no need to venture down there again any time soon.

Indeed , it all depends what type of holiday you are after , I love lying on the beach , going on boat trips to the nearby islands so I liked Phuket , I was also lucky to be with 3 good mates so we had a right laugh .

The big drawback is the bars trying to rip you off , after the first night we insisted on paying for each drink as we bought it , nearly everyone who I've spoken to about Phuket says the same thing , a real stupid ploy by the bar owners , if a bar tries to rip you off you will hardly want to drink there again .

The Indian suit sellers are nowhere near as bad as Pattaya , how could they be

I was there a month before the tsunami. The T-Shirt and souvenir vendors occupied beach road, the taxi drivers where annoying, the restaurants looked like tourist traps and the "pleasure area" was surprisingly small. And, to be honest, the beaches where half as wonderful as often described.

I do not have to travel 6.000 miles for that. I can hit the beaches in Italy or Spain instead.

Even for whore-mongering Phuket is a decent place, but it cannot compete with Pattaya or Bangkok.  I guess it all comes down to what you look for, if you go to Thailand just to fuck LB's then you should go to Pattaya.  If you want part of your trip to be a "normal" holiday Phuket is a very nice place IMO.

There are some very beautiful LB's (and GG's) in Phuket, they might charge a bit more than other areas but for most of us it is still extremely cheap.

i only ever been phuket,
bkk for day or two on way home.
phuket town is crap ! but patong for me and has been for last 6 yrs, been twice this yr already, going in september and have flight booked for xmas, if it were that shit stogie i wouldnt go as i have to save to make my trips!
as a expat living in los, you should know how to deal with the twats selling suits, and i expect you speak thai aswell so you would have better holiday than most if visiting ladyboy island !

one day i will try pattaya, but i know phuket prob as much as you know either bkk or patts.

AS FOR PHUKET  well i like that place. have been there a few times over the last 20 odd years, and if your  prepared to get of your  fat ass and explore, as im sure many of you do. you will find some of the best secret beaches  around.I found a great hotel  callled  baan veerakit, close to the beach  and 800 a night. has 24 internet for cunts who cant bear to drag then selfs away from there work, has a swimming pool air  con and lovely balconeys over looking the pool and garden. www.veerakit.com
i hire a motor bike for 130 baat a day  with no insurance. i drive slow and i ignore tuk tuk s.i also ignore the indian taylors who are all sri lankan.
I like phuket, its relaxed  fun  friendly and cheap,  but if your a  boaring fucker who likes 5 star, and  cant be assed to look a round, then you will get ripped off at every corner. shit they can see  you coming
