i did check out the bungalows last trip and although the interior was a bit nicer, more roomy than the main bldg, and they have lovely front porches -- they lack the privacy i prefer. i didn't feel like sitting out on the verenda with my teerak-of-the-day only 5' from the sole path thru the entire resort between street and beach!
and even in the room, if you opened the curtains -- hello misery watch!! so i stuck to the elevated isolation of the main building for my playtime and when desiring the outdoors, just strolled a few more feet to the beach. 
i agree re lamai. not nearly the variety we grow used to, but confident you'll find one or two worth your time, and for a week's get-away, that's plenty for me before heading back to pattaya and/or bangkok for the ceaseless grind of finding someone newer and better day after day after day...
The night I tried it the sky was red with purple flashes , great stuff
