This is no big news, and in fact it was already commented in an earlier post that the winner was "locked" before the contest.

The Thai forums that discuss contests apparently comment on this widely as well, so if this is well known by contestants going in why do they bother to enter?

I spoke with Nam, a lovely and beautiful lb who works at Alcazar Cabaret. She entered the competition this year and told me this: "I do for fun. No way I can win, but I want to enjoy." She actually did well, getting into the final 10 and winning the Ripley Most Beatiful WoMan award (hate that title's wording). She was happy she entered and told me that it was good.

I would suggest get over it, this is not the only competition that is "fixed", this happens in many places other than Thailand.

I have sponsored two lbs, one for Miss Tiffany and one for Miss Alcazar - both told me they did not expect to win since they knew it was pre arranged, and they just wanted to do it for "fun" and to see if they could make the final 10.

Not that I'm arguing the case that the fix isn't in, but if you look at it logically, there could be another easy explanation.

You say that 3 of the 4 are winners, why not all winners? Why have an extra one?

Let's say a photographer wanted to get a good picture. He's going to grab the girls he thinks look best for his photo. Obviously this means he is likely to be picking the top end, not the bottom end.

This would obviously be more likely than less likely to overlap with those who will be judged as the winners. As pattern recognizers, we are often amazed at things that are completely random, or have obvious and simple reasons. We don't realize how strong a concept like survivor bias affects our perceptions.

Unfortunately survivor bias and pattern recognition often lead people to believe some incredibly stupid card tricks, seances, religion, and modern politics.

Again, my point is not whether the contest is rigged, it may well be. My point is that hundreds of photos go by without anyone sitting upright in their chair. But one photo happens to include 4 girls the photographer liked, and 3 match up as winners and people take it as proof of the fix? A bit of a stretch.

I agree with my chum Grunyen. This isn't any kind of 'evidence' of fixing, although I'm sure in my own mind that the competition IS fixed!

mmmm... they all seem to be wearing purple contestant Rosettes . I doubt if the make-up lady gets to wear one even though i agree that its fixed. Most people take that as a given anyway as Rxpharm stated.

Hmm, maybe you are Diablo80 with a different name? I remember that diablo80 was a lot more enthusiastic about the contest even though it may be "fixed", as per the post from May 08/07.

I have spent last Monday (the 7th of May) at Miss TIffany's Premises where the preliminary selection of the girls took place. There were presented about 100 girls form which only 30 of them chosen to go throught the training for the Miss TIffanys Beauty Contest Competition 2007.

Miss TIffanys, as a world wide known company, would never allow any kind of LB to take place to the competition but only the very good looking and best of them. Answering to your question and thoughts, YES it is a FIXED competition (at least that is what many Thai Web sites say, www.thaimiss.com).

However, whether or not the whole beauty contest is fixed, it does not make any difference to us, the Farangs (unless you are in my case and your GF is between these 30 ones to run and represent miss Tiffany's 2007) since it does not take away any "glitter", "brightness" or SHOW from this unique beauty contest. People in many countries will still watch the "late night" re-trasmit to their TVs since Tiffany's Beauty Contest has latelly became one of the most expected shows both to "laugh" and to amuse together with miss USA and Miss World.

So, going into the contest diablo80 and Ex already knew it was probably "fixed". Now there are complaints about it being "fixed" after it is finished. Hmm, so what is going on here?
