I tend to agree DT.. There are many opportunities if you do the home work, of course if you want to focus on the negatives-that can be found also.

There is a lot of money being made out there at the moment...don't be scared to have a crack.

As for pattaya..well its a buyers market and you may all say it is doom and gloom...but id be buying there now while prices are rock bottom. Personally I wouldnt buy in soi 7&8, but others places worth taking a punt on at the right price.

Don't confuse government debt with company, both usa & europe have many companies with strong balance sheet.
If you follow some of the asian markets you will find several at pre gfc highs... Things are on the up & up.

I am certainly no Pattaya authority, far from it. Nonetheless, over the last year I have spent a considerable amount of time kicking around here and have become somewhat familiar with the scene.

Since I had heard Pattaya in "high" season can be very robust and dynamic (compared to other times of the year) I expected more during this current trip. In truth, I see very little difference. In fact, if anything, I think the town was more busy in September than now.

Like Manarak, I see more bars for sale and other peoples from other lands with perhaps different interests and agendas than mine. I may be wrong but my sense is there are also more families and couples on vacation not unlike Patong. When I walk down the usual "hard-on" sois it seems to lack the energy of my previous trips. On the other hand maybe that is simply ME not experiencing the "first time" anymore.

By now the place should be jumping & you are only confirming what I am hearing, it is anything but.

As for the lack of energy you mention, I am sure the girls must be suffering "lack of customer" fatigue. There can only be so many times you can shout "where you go hansum man?" before the ennui takes hold.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

(deepthroat @ Dec. 15 2010,10:54) If I were a Pattaya bar owner, I'd be looking to the Chinese and Indian markets. That's probably got a bigger upside in the next 20 years than the American/European market. There's still a lot of prejudice towards the Indian customer in particular, but that will change when they begin to "show (them) the money".
Relying on the Chinese & Indians to fill the bars of Pattaya is an exercise in futility. Only a few of them drink & even fewer want to pay bar prices.

There is a reason why certain people are refused entry to many bars & clubs, they will sit on a coke all night & offer the girls 200 baht to go with 3 of them. The girls hate them as do the bar owners.

I would have thought that the millions of Chinese males who will never find a wife at home thanks to China's one child policy would have been a natural fit with the bargirls of Thailand & the Philippines.

Apparently not, there is so much discrimination between the citizens of both countries that a Thai bride is not considered worthy. I wonder how long that mentality will last.

Sorry but I don't go along with this

I was in Beijing and Shanghai earlier this year and was talking to a girl who is operating a dating site introducing Vietnamese and Cambodian girls to Chinese men

Half the Filipino population is at least 1/8th Chinese and the girls from the Philippines will marry anyone with money.

I agree with TG925 with 1 exception.. the people you're referring to as unworthy paccie are "smart" and don't want to waste their time with "bargirls" when it comes to considering long term relationships.

I know I'm inviting controversy, but I ask you this.. lets say you have a home and a successful business and a college degree, who would be your first choice when it came to companionship - a college grad or a bargirl?

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

(manarak @ Dec. 14 2010,20:37) I have seen many empty bars in Pattaya, some closed.
No bad thing , Pattaya is coming down with hundreds of shit bars that do not deserve our patronage .

The ones that are doing well are modern , airconditioned or have smart owners who listen to customer needs and I'm not just talking ladyboy bars .

Take the Pattaya Beer Garden , well run, decent food and drink at great prices , perfect location , and most importantly the owner is a nice guy and customer focused . That place is a goldmine , go in at night and you'll be pushed to find a table .

There are loads of good bars around Pattaya doing well , check out Mike La Cage or Corner Bar in Sunee , and most bars in Soi New Plaza, all do well because they have good prices / happy hours / food etc etc etc ...

Go into any go-go bar in Walking Street between 8-10 pm and they are packed , beers and spirits 59 baht .

Personally I couldn't care less if hundreds of beer bars go to the wall in Pattaya , too many of them are rip off joints full of annoying people .

As in Pattaya/ Thailand things will change yet remain the same as they always do .
Free your mind and your ass will follow .

I don't know who moved and changed the title of my original post, but the observation was not about Pattaya.

I am wondering if a crash of the global economy is coming.

No, intelligence has little to do with this equation. I've seen plenty of educated guys with good careers lose their minds over 20-something thai prostitutes. Being educated is a world away from being smart. "Rational Intelligence" or emotional intelligence is not something that is picked up at Yale.

As I said earlier as every day passes pattaya grows stronger!!!

If people think the measure of success is the number of shitful beerbars in operation...then I guess they dont travel so much.

the decline of the beer bar started 10 yrs ago in phuket...hasnt lead to the demise of thay place.

Now manarak.. Back to your original post... The world is not coming to a crash.
Things are on the up and up but this may take a decade to resolve itself.

get rid of the euro...else germany may end up owning the place
