Interesting news gents.

I'll have to say I missed the whole thing, as I really never ventured much beyond the Avenue Mall except for excursions to Soi 6 or Pooks Swan House. Everything else up that way was no-man's land for me. If they start forcing out bars between the Avenue Mall and Walking Street THEN I'll start to get worried.

Sorry to see this happening though as I understand you more experienced hands are probably affected by some of these closures and the oncoming tide of "tourist development".

I have spent literally hundreds of hours there, as I met my Thai ex-wife of 4 years there around the turn of the century. We lived in PTY for 2 years and we went there at least 4-5 times/week. The cabaret show was a great pool from which to choose. A real loss, although the quality has certainly gone down over the years, probably more to do with the fond memories than recent offerings. A harbinger of things to come, I'm afraid. There's been a slow but inexorable push to upscale the town, starting at the north end of Beach Rd, but then exploding with the new Central mall. That and the beachfront condos north of it are going to eventually eat up all of the sanuk on Beach Rd. & 2nd Rd.
