Well when i first went to Jenny Star Bar in 2007 it was a fun place, seemed comfortable with little pressure.

The last time I was there which was Sept. 2012 they place was exactly as you originally described.
If you aren't willing to go with the LBs they would just turn their nose up and ignore you.
The place was virtually empty yet they had this attitude.
No wonder the place is close, although there was probably other reasons.

Unfortunately Jenny Star Bar is now relegated to the history books, but you're right a combination of things brought that about. The "superstar" attitude, the crowds of tourists that used to take photos when the lbs were dancing out front made it difficult for customers to remain anonymous, and I think that "Jenny" lost interest in managing the bar, so the the staff ended up running (running down) the show.

That bar was classic, too bad it is gone.
