Chonburi Governor Sawang Srisakun today announced that closing times in Pattaya would have to fully comply with national law which requires all bars outside of entertainment zones to be closed at 12am. The national entertainment law governs the closing times of bars between 12am and 3am depending on the type of establishment and the zone they are located in. The national law covers closing times, but local laws cover opening hours. Governor Sawang Srisakun said that he will allow local municipalities to open at 3am, as it is allowed by the law for him to set opening hours. Pattaya bars will have to comply with the new regulations and stop serving alcohol at 12am, or 2am for walking street zoned bars, but will be able to resume selling at 3am. Bar owners contacted by the paper said they plan dim the lights at closing time and allow patrons to sleep a bit in the bar before reopening at 3am.
