Total newbie here, visiting Bkk for the first time and will only spend one night, arriving at the hotel in the vening.
As I won't have time to roam the streets and bars I'd like to book an outcall from a reliable agency if possible.

Using an agency is not the best way, and yes you can find an lb in just one night by going to 2-3 lb bars in Nana Plaza. If you still don't want to go this route you can try Thai Friendly - but be sure the lb you correspond with is definitely p4p - some are looking for a relationship - but many are in p4p. Yes agencies don't really work the same as other countries and most times they are just getting them from the bars anyway.
You may significantly more trying to book through a traditional escort service, as you are introducing a middle man and other complications.
Bars charge a fine but do not take a cut of the ladyboys fee you pay later, and they have a reputation to uphold as compared to some "pimp".

Still your best bet is staying near Nana Plaza and just pick a girl and make your choice.
I still find it far better to pick my dates in person to make sure there is chemistry and appeal to me.
Plus you can check out all the goods before you buy when you go into a bar.
In Nana Charades, Temptations and Fairy Bar all have a good selection.
There is also Check Inn Bar which opens in the afternoon and very laid back.

Additionally, assuming you are staying in a hotel that allows ladyboys, most likely you will have to come down to check them in.

You don't have to stay in the bar or even have a drink, you can just go pick a ladyboy to go.

Normally wouldn't recommend any agency in Bangkok as they are not sanctioned by authorities and much riskier.
The bars are "legitimately" allowed to provide this service and they also seem very lenient on freelance providers.

For some guys I imagine that it's difficult to near impossible for them to go physically to a LB Bar for varying reasons. On this forum there are guys that may not find it embarrassing to be seen in a LB Bar and accompanying a LB to their hotel. Then, there are many guys who do not want it known that they are interested in LBs. They could be seen by friends and/or family, either on camera or in person. They could be caught up in an arrest, for one reason or another. A LB may get your personal information or even photos and place them on the web. Then there is what is known as "the walk of shame" that is referred to on these forums and is well known. When they have an agency provide the LB Escort the LB comes to your hotel and you never have to be seen with her by prying eyes. It may cost more, but the guy is protecting his reputation. Now, I neither agree nor disagree with this preference. It is each individual's decision and should be respected. Another problem with an agency is bait and switch - the photo is not of the lb who actually shows up. Of course you can always refuse her if she is not the one in the photo - but this can cause complications.

Yes but given being from Thailand or knowing many people in Bangkok, there is very little chance of anyone seeing you in the red light areas.
There is cameras but only official ones, general filming is frowned upon and inside bars you could get yourself in serious trouble if caught filming.
Pictures are sometimes ok, but usually only if there isn't other customers.
Sure it happens with all the phones out there these days, but generally most of it isn't seen by anyone. Plus why would your family be scouring the internet looking for a glimpse of you in some random video. I would question their sanity if this was going on.

Plus, if you go to any bar you don't have to leave with the girl. You can give her your hotel and wait in the lobby.
All the hotels in Bangkok will make you come down to the lobby and check your guest in anyway, so this eliminates the walk of shame.

Being type cast in Thailand is pretty hard since ladyboys are an integral part of society. Everyone is related to a ladyboy there so it is not a big deal to be seen with any for the most part.
