Well the bar opened tonight. Not at 3pm as planned, more like 5pm but I guess thats par for the course in 'mai pen rai' Thailand.
The fact that the electrician did not show until about 6pm did not seem to phase anybody (except me), and the question about why one pool table was the other side of the bar to the pool table light, equally did not seem to concern anyone.
The sofa was comfortable, the beer was cold and about 16 girls were in the new bar which actually made for a cosy atmosphere. Come 10pm, there were about 9 guys in the bar, many of whom had traipsed over from Soi 1 after seeing the sign on the door, and some just ventured in blind, without knowing what Guess Bar was all about.
To say, they still have some work to do is probably an understatement. The bar is short of one pool table (still in the old bar), the UBC still does not work (but apparently will tomorrow, which also makes me question why tonight the UBC in Jays apartment has suddenly been turned off - maybe she cancelled the wrong contract for all I know).
Surprise surprise though, in among all the crap carried over from Soi 1 someone found the Christmas Tree - so tonight, in the middle of a load of boxes & plastic bags everywhere - they all decided to decorate a christmas tree. I have to say, it and the bar is starting to look good, but I dont even want to go there when I mistakenly as a farang questioned their priorities
I guess we will never quite fathom out the mindset. of course, 5 hours after I suggested moving the one pool table to be under the already installed lighting for it - it actually happened - it was truly a deja vu moment. Jay said, "its so people can play pool" - maybe I must have mistakenly said it was for people to look at Damn I must be losing my marbles in my old age.
So in a nutshell the bar is open - but expect some fawlty towers antic's in the next 24 hours especially when the electrical team are in tomorrow.
Cheers
Mardhi
