Wine - would you buy by the bottle?

If Guess selected (via a relative expert and thats not me) say a wine list of a dozen good bottles mixed between red and white wine - would anybody be interested in drinking them?

I know wine is taxed heavy in Thailand, and last week when I went out I ended up paying something like 1500b + VAT + service charge for a half decent Australian bottle of wine - which personally I found to be a bit of a rip-off given that the same wine has a retail price of probably 600 baht and in Australia would probably sell for 300 baht or less.

My thought would be trying to convince Jay to get a wine fridge and then create a list of as I a say about a dozen wines, however interested in knowing if their would be much interest. By the way the selling price would be somewhere in the range of 800-1000 baht I would imagine.

Despite drinking a good red wine virtually every night whilst in Australia, when in Thailand I tend to switch to Beer or a quality Gin & Tonic if at Guess Bar.

The price is certainly one factor, however I find the climate in Thailand seems to suit Beer & mixed drinks as opposed to red wine.

Presumably this argument is null & void if you enjoy a good chilled white wine, which I generally don't.

For me personally, can't say I'd be drinking wine at Guess Bar.

Perhaps those regular clients based in Bangkok or visiting more frequently could be interested ?

The boxed white wine in Guess was probably the best one I've tasted 'by the glass' in LOS.  OK, that doesnt say much!!  By far the worst was a close call between the Landmark & Lucky Lukes  

In Lita's, Karl discovered that Lita had put the red wine in the fridge, and the half full bottle of white on a shelf just under a large lampholder.  This has now been switched round, but I probably wont bother.

Oh, i've just remebered, the best red was 199 baht a bottle, by our pool in downtown Bangkok, but Stogie has sworn me to secrecy on where that was purchased

 Yep... I've been stockpiling this French (or more accurately; EU) wine by the case since I found it for 199 a bottle...

I enjoy cheap plonk and would probably buy a bottle in The Guess Bar if I could store the unused portion of it there...

I think getting a wine fridge with a range of wines is probably going a bit too far, though. But I'm not in the bar business so I'm just guessing.

Those small bottles that hold about a glass (like on the airplanes) is probably the answer.

I'm sure having some nice wines would also provide attitude adjustment for some of the crew there at Guess, and be in even more of a hurry to find out how much meat the customers are packing just as soon as they hit those sofas

I would say no - much like Koykaeng I stick to beer or the occassional g&t in LOS.

I like wine and i drink it usually at home, but, mostly becuase of the price, i'd say no, thanks. Beer is also better for Thailand weather...

If by the glass, yes. If I go alone or with May, I can't imagine drinking 6 glasses, i.e., a full bottle.

Decent quality will make the difference.

I tend to only drink wine at home, usually red. I enjoy Singha when in Thailand and the occasional G&T, but after about a week I'm hanging out for a red and buy an outrageously priced Jacobs Creek or similar, not even a wine I would drink at home. When I have succumbed and bought a bottle in a restaurant it is usually served at about 30 degrees. It's funny asking for ice to add to it the waitress gets all concerned and advises "led wine drink warm"
Those wine fridges are good you can store reds at the top about 18 degrees and whites lower down in a cooler zone.
So yes it would be good to have wine available at Guess, the only problem is I never seem to be in the bar area long enough to drink more than a glass

A good french Vouvaray would be good in Thailand it is a refreshing summer wine best consumed while having great conversation and light food.

Although I might not drink it, it might be a good idea to get bottle service with wine and have it as an alternative to lady drinks and charge a bit of a premium for it and possibly extra for extra glasses.

My "wine "drinking anymore consists pretty much of Sandeman Port and Harvey's Bristol Creame .

Just had a brief fantasy of sharing a bottle of cold chardonnay with Eats (or Jenny or Pear or Jane) which has brought me firmly into the yes camp.

My only reservation being that if you chill red wine you kill it and the humidity in LOS is not really condusive to chambre conditioning at room temperature even in air conditioning.

Perhaps the solution to this as so many problems is a fridge full of champagne (or the equivalent)
