Buying a bottle

What is guess bar's policy for buying by the bottle? How much is a bottle of black for instance? How long will it be stored? How about mixer prices for each time?

Good question... Mardhi will give you the exact details from Jay, but it can be done.

One of the regulars did it in the past and from what I understand there is a price (usually a good one) for the bottle and half a dozen free mixers, although I think if you don't mind the 2lt bottle of Coke or Soda I think it's always free.

In Guess Bar you can buy spirits by the bottle (which are normally 70cl think, or 7/10th's of a litre). The price is either 1200, 1500 or 1800 baht from memory depending upon which spirit it is ( Tequilla is 1200, JW red label is 1500b, JW Black is 1800 baht). The bottle has typically 23 'shots" ie 700cl / 30cl shot.

Comparable price if you bought 23 single drinks is 2990 baht using Black label so your over 1000b better off if you drink a lot. The mixers include 6 bottles of whatever you want ie coke, soda, etc. Extra bottles of mixers are 60baht. Unless someone asks for them to use 'small bottles' of mixers, basically you get as Stogie says 1.5l bottles of coke.

For people who drink the same spirit often, it does work out considerably cheaper and also allows you to choose how much you pour into each glass. Lady drinks are not included in the bottle - ie if you give some of your bottle to a girl, she wont be that thrilled as she does not get a commission, but then again, I have never seen anyone have a big issue with this.

Oh and the bottle is kept for a month as a rule, however, I dont believe they have ever thrown away a bottle - ie until such time as the bar is being overloaded with half drunk bottles, its unlikely that the bottle will be thrown after 1 month.

I used to do this all the time in Pattaya with a less well off mate... problem was remembering the bars we done it at the next day as we got so sloshed.

It was great on occassion though when one of the girl's would remember us and come over with the remains of a bottle from a previous session.... felt like a freebee

The bottle deal is good for both the bar and the customer, a win-win. Good price for the customer and the bar benefits cause the customer keeps coming back.

I thought this was explained. The reason would be to both save a little of money and also then pour into the glass whatever amount you want. This of course only make sense if you will drink it all i.e you will visit the bar enought times.

Simple mathematics. A bottle is 700ml which means about 23 shots of 30ml. If you bought these individually at 130 baht per shot then you would be paying 2990 baht as the most expensive of the bottles is 1800 to buy you save at least 1190 baht.

Make sense to me and I do it all the time especially in Guess but have also done it in Obsessions and the other Nana bars.

I used to it at Cocktails and Dreams in Phuket when I was a frequent visitor.

With that 1190 Baht you save, you could have a couple of Short Times with Beam and still have enough left over for a meal.

If a bar will let you do this it's a 'win win' situation all around. For a start you'll be round their gaff more often (and probably with friends, too) and, like Ozzie says, you can pick and choose the size and strength of your drinks, which to me is the best reason for having your own bottle.

One of the best thing about buying a bottle is the Thai VIP service that comes with it. Your glass will never be empty--it will be topped off automatically for you by an attentive staff the whole time you are there. You'll reach for your half empty glass and notice it is full to the brim made just the way you like it. It also attracts girls as they know you're going to be staying for a while, you are likely to be drinking a lot and be generous, and an occasional one may just want a free nip of alcohol.

Actually to me this is a negative.   I may not want to be topped.    

The bottle scheme is especailly good if you're going to a Thai disco.  There were 7 of us going to Xcyte one night and as the only farang it was of course my treat.

Think seven admissions and a bottle was only 1000 baht.  As I recall it was a good bottle, maybe Johnnie Black. Mixers and ice are extra and can add up though.

Though if mixing with Coke, I'd just as soon drink Sang Som as Johnnie Black.
