Hmm, what's going on here? Haven't had any problems with the times I've visited Guess Bar - perhaps the longer you stay, or the bigger the crowd gets the volume creeps up?

The new extension might be the solution to this - have the music low in the section where the guys want to shoot the breeze and a bit louder in the area where the "action" is!

Yes they would. I and many others do this a lot. So bring your own music... Of course they are more enthusiastic about this in the earlier hours of the evening rather than the later ones...

Go for it... I already have a CD burned for my next trip.... A bit of Joe Jackson, Supertramp, Dylan, Boz Skaggs, Thin Lizzy, ELO, Level 42, Lou Reed... on it goes!

            Exquisite taste

A bit of Lou Rawls, David Grey, Otis Reading, Peter Frampton, Paul Carrack, Tavares, and Snow Patrol are always easy on my ears.

Over 50 people have voted and the figures speak for themselves. It's not a scientific poll and although I'd say that there was a heavy bias in favour of reducing that awful racket there's also an argument that as it's only over half of the voters (62%) that are objecting then why change anything...

I'll be in The Guess Bar on three different occasions this week at different times of the night and I'll report back to you all on whether or not things have changed in favour of the customers... or whether we'll continue to have to go outside to be heard.

In fairness to the bar when I have asked them to turn it down in the past they sometimes do it, but they really don't like to and as soon as your backs turned, more often than not, up it goes again!

              Power to the people!

                You are being kind

To get 'only over half' when there are only 2 choices, maybe your point is valid.

To get 62% when there are 4 choices is a pretty strong argument

Certainly sounds like pretty compelling feedback to me - maybe we should vote with our wallets and move to the bar across the hallway with the other pool table in line of sight of Guess Bar. I have got bored with the amount of times I have asked Jay to turn down the music - last time I just went to another bar - maybe others need to do the same and let her know why your doing it. Sometimes, its the only way people will listen. By the way its Jay that needs to hear the comment, its her that keeps turning it up, not Gong who I believe is more realistic in the music volume.

sorry to appear negative but its a difficult one to solve when the owner does not believe its a problem.

                  Cheers

Well, after the first of my three sneaky trips to Guess Bar I have to say that when I went tonight both the music and the volume was great.

The music itself was easy listening dance music rather than the frenetic mind numbing crap that many bars think that will entice us to enter and/or stay... and the volume was perfect. I managed to talk and hear a conversation easily with the girls and the mate I was with. I was there on a Monday night between 7PM and 9PM...

So basically I'm screwed because I've got nothing to complain about, although I did nearly break my back when I leant up against the bar looking for a footrail! ( )

I'll pop by two more times in the next six days and report back...

Great idea. Can we tell her you suggested this?

How are your testicles by the way?

I was at a concert called electric picnic here in ireland, they had a thing at it called the silent disco, everyone there with big head phones, listening to what the DJ was playing, and it was the funniest thing I ever seen, people hopping around dancing in a huge tent in complete silence.

They should bring that in at the guess bar

                          problem solved

Well - I have to say that in the four times I was there this week the music both volume and content was pretty much perfect.

I "GUESS" they have either changed policy or I had just shown up prior to 9/11 on bad nights...

Well done Jay for giving us older folk a great place to slurp suds...

On my 3 visits this past week, it was pretty mellow. OTOH, at one point we were discussing whether the music was from a Broadway musical or a 1950's Hollywood film. Please don't go Judy Garland on us. Anyway, nice on the volume.

PS: looking at the poll, it is still running that ~70% of those who care about the music feel it's been too loud.
