I was just reading on another board that the new mayor of Bangkok (Rudi Jiulianithepet) has been elected after running a campaign marked by his repeated pledges to "clean up the entire Nana and Sukhumvit area". His plan is to Disneyfy the entire area and "make it safe and a magnet for tourists again".
Now that elections are over, sources have revealed that he is planning to announce his plan for the cleanup at a major press conference on April 1 which will be held in the Majestic Grande. Another source I have in the Majestic Grande confirms that Mayor Jiulianithepet does have the conference room booked for that date at 1pm.
According to government sources, he will announce these new sweeping measures simultaneous with a major police crackdown on the NEP, with coordinated sweeps of the clubs and the afterhours "bars" operating along Sukhumvit.
Many of the clubs have acknowledged that changes are on the horizon, with many beginning to look for new locations in Chang Mia and Mai Pen Rai.
You heard it here first.
