The thing I liked during my stay was there were no PIMPS. Got lots now. And they are dangerous. Same for the taxi drivers who are unlicensed or carry fake certificates. Always check if you can open the passenger or back doors from the inside. I have been kidnapped and robbed by Flips. Luckily I never carried more than $20 of pesos. Beware the money changers on the sidewalks of Manila. They are scammers and very clever ones, too. They like to seat you facing the store front with all the distracting sidewalk traffic. One counts the money and the partner distracts you by asking you a question. When you turn your head the counter will exchange the pack of pesos on the table with a smaller pack or swipe a portion of the counted money. Dirtiest mutherfucks that Flips are. I had to ask my hostel manager to call the cops. She called the PFBI who arrived with my money. So quickly. So I thanked them and left. The manger yelled at me why I didn't tip them. Why should I? That's their job. Fuck fuck fuck the Philippines. Go Thailand. Everything is so much better there. Got stealers and scammers but way less. Plus the Thai Kats are way prettier and sexier. Fahgeddaboud da Flips. Waste of time and too much grief and depressing to see all this shit.

Can anyone verify this? I have a 6th sense for scammers now but reading stories like this make me not want to go to the Philippines.

I have been to the Philippines 12 times since 2019 traveling to Manila, Catanduanes Island, Baguio, Iloilo and various other places to and from. One time I dropped my wallet in the bus station in Manila and a guy found me (my drivers license photo) to return my wallet to me. I have probably spent 30 to 40 weeks there all told.

Nothing bad has ever happened to me even though my gf has not been with me 24x7 (she is with me most of the time however). To hear George tell it (and he did spend a lot of time there years ago), it's nothing but thieves and scammers. What can I say? I have had better experiences than he did.

My 39 year old gf has lived there her whole life and even though I got her a passport, I can't even get her to go to Thailand. I must admit the Filipinos treat her respectfully as a woman so maybe I can understand her unwillingness to travel elsewhere.

Many of the Filipina women are not very attractive but there are a lot of stunners in a wide variety of looks. Some could pass as Latinas, others as K-pop queens. If you can't find a hot Filipina, you just haven't looked very much. I like the place personally.

Solid info Escierto, thanks! This definately gives me the want to go over to PH eventually. I do think you got lucky with an honest person returning your wallet, that does not happen often in dev countries. How would you compare it to Thailand overall? What are your favorite spots in PH?

Filipinas can definitely be hotties. Their pro sex attitude I think is very welcomed. Your gf would be very welcomed in most SE Asian countries and any major Western city imo.

I will say attitude plays a huge factor. If you expect a dev country to have the same standards in almost anything you will be disappointed. If you roll with the punches with a smile, avoid dodgy places (research!) and attempt to understand the culture and differences in culture, study some phrases in the language and get a compass on the values you will be in such a better starting point to enjoy a country.

First of all, I can't really compare it to Thailand because I have never been to Thailand (I would love to go if I can ever get my gf to go!) However I have chatted with a LOT of Thai girls on ThaiFriendly and I concluded that most of them did not speak English well enough to satisfy me in a relationship. On the other hand the Filipinas can nearly all speak a passable English and many of them like my girlfriend are completely fluent. I mean she understands EVERYTHING and we have a lot of fun joking around and teasing each other.

Their command of English was really what led me to focus on the Filipinas. I can speak Spanish too and that actually helps with Tagalog because many words are borrowed from Spanish.

One place I highly recommend is Baguio and nearby La Trinidad. Baguio is a nice little city in the mountains several hours north of Manila. The weather can be quite cool there and it is surrounded by beautiful pine forests. I love pine trees! La Trinidad is the home of huge strawberry farms with some great strawberry jams. Yum yum!

My girlfriend is from the island of Catanduanes and while it has some beautiful beaches that you don't have to share with anyone, it's just too remote to make it worth a trip by itself. There is some tourist infrastructure there but still not enough. You are better off going to the beach spots like Boracay or better yet, Siquijor.

In Manila, we stay in Makati where she used to live. Lots of restaurants and bars with plenty to keep a visitor occupied. I have never been to the red light districts in Malate and Angeles City but I have spent some time on P. Burgos Street in Makati. Lots of attractive ladyboys trying to make a living there in the evenings. We sometimes chat them up - they always high five my girlfriend when they find out she is a pure top (what is that all about?)

One thing about the Filipinos is you will rarely find anyone who doesn't love Americans. Of course almost all of them have friends or family here and it seems like many would love to join them. Except my girlfriend!
