Othon Palace is bang in the middle of Copacabana....that is f**king dangerous. Absolutely everyone, bar none, told me when I was there to not even think about walking a single block on Copa late at night. Not a single block!

There will be TS on Copa right outside your hotel, walking up and down. Very high risk. Also no idea if hotel will let them in.

Best bet for safety is internet sites, and bring them to your hotel or nearby love motel. If you speak Portugese, you will be fine. If you don't, you could try tipping the hotel concierge to make the appointments for you, but he does not know the bad girls from the nice girls......Hilda does.

Pay Hilda something to organise things for you. She knows LOTS of TSs in SP and Rio, and can do that just by telephone for you.

jesus rio has changed. i was there in 1991 was told the same stuff about how dangerous it was there at night. used to go to help disco and shit my self the first night because of what i had been told (danger) fucking hell after a few days i was walking back to the apartment hotel pissed everynight
no one ever bothered me got sort of smothered by a gang of shemales and just walked throught them laughing as there hands tryed to pick pocket me.

Personally I don't think Copacabana is THAT bad. You can for sure walk around there at night and as long as you are aware of your surroundings, not carrying any large sums of cash or flashing jewelry, you should be fine.

I'd stay away from the TS's on there though unless you have gotten a recommendation from someone. One of them offered to give me a BJ right there in the street for 20R but when I gave her the money she basically told me to go fuck off - lol. Seeing as she was almost a foot taller than me, I took the loss.

Most other places I have visited you get the same "Oh be careful, it is dangerous" stuff, but then you meet people who give you a more balanced view. This was the first place I have been where i did not get the balanced view.

Ipanema Beach was fine, but Copa felt a little on the edge to me!
