Perth Consulate to Close

Not sure if this is the best place to post this- I'm sure it will be moved if necessary. It may affect some people's travel plans for the future. I received this this am.

Unfortunately the rumour is true, we are closing as of 18th October 2010 therefore last day office open will be Thursday 14th October 2010. All Consulate business for Western Australia will have to be dealt with through The Thai Embassy in Canberra, and we have no other details as to their future plans for Perth. We would like to say thanks to all the ex pats who have used our Consulate over the many years. We will miss everyone

I hope the contagion doesn't spread to Hull!

Well the Hon Consul was 80 odd. I second the feeling about Hull,dealing with embassies is a pain. Why they can't have the same common sense approach beats me. Another rumour has it that he pain in the arse at penang has moved on and they are lightening up a bit on visas again.

What a pain in the ass.. What must it have cost them to run? The place was only open 2 half days a week!

I'm confused...Was is a Royal Thai Consulate or an Honorary Thai Consulate...

Most consuls in the 'Western' countries seem to be Honourary, whereas the Ambassador is a Thai. I think it may be a citizenship thing- also not practical or enjoyable for a Thai to be sent off to hull, Cardiff or Birmingham in the case of the UK . For instance the Austrian Honourary Consul in Phuket is Thai, most other Honourary Consuls here are citizens of their countries.

it seems a shame this great service is about to end- they've always been more than helpful towards me. Hopefully at some point in the future normal service will be resumed.
