Went to Venice last September for first time , bloody expensive but unique and enchanting , so worth the cost.

Loads of hotels to choose from, I stayed in one in the heart of the city, very small rooms but perfectly ok, cost about 4000 baht for the night. Think I found it on the Easyjet site under hotels.

Half hour gondola trip is about 5000 baht! and a gin and tonic in a good hotel is about 750 baht.

One thing i did do which was fantastic was having dinner in the famous Hotel Cipriani on the terrace. This went straight to the top of best occasions I had last year.

Even better than a twosome with two superstar LB ! ! !

    Its a must do.

You can pay a lot of money for a night in a half decent hotel in Venice.

After 4 visits, I can't recommend any one place but for a single night, one of the small private hotels will be fine. Just don't expect a large room.

As you arrive at Venice, look for the sign pointing to the Information Office. The sign is the letter "i" written in script & every town in Italy has one. In Venice, it is before the causeway & has a carpark alongside it.

Ask them what accommodation there is & they will give you the name & cost of every room available for that night.

They will ring through & book it for you, you just pay them at the counter & they give you a voucher. The service is excellent, they will show you exactly where the place is in relation to St Marcos Square & provide any other advice you need.

I always found it best to book after 11am which is checkout time in Italy. Before people check out, the room isn't on the system, once the hotel has a free room, it's as good as yours.

I have never missed getting somewhere reasonable (nothing is cheap in Venice), even on a weekend, which is to be avoided at all costs. The weekend is when the locals visit Venice & the place is heaving with people.

I have never been more than a block away from St Marcos, not bad when you see how far away some of the name hotels are.

If you are travelling by train or bus, I don't know how you can get them to stop at the Information Office, I always drive there, but there must be a few sites available.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

        Good advice paccie

Reflections, this is a nice family run hotel pretty close to the action. I haven't stayed there myself but it was recommended to me by friends.

http://www.alportico.com/ (around 135 euros for a family room end of july)

This one is a bit more 'Vegas' but also kid-friendly   :

        http://www.luxorcairohotel.it/en/index.htm (around 100 euros)

Anyway plenty of options and availability looks ok at the minute. Have fun

              The Cipriani.

Among Venice residences, Hotel Cipriani exudes an unapologetic grandeur that’s hard to emulate. Step onto our private dock and discover the most iconic hotel in Venice.
