    Hi ,

will shortly be visiting Japan for a few weeks. I used to live in Tokyo but never had to stay in a hotel there. I know we have a few BMs resident in Japan and hoping they can help me out with some advice

Am looking for recommendations on well-located hotel (i.e. near subway, JR stations etc) for 13,000 yen or less per night (that's my budget but willing to go under )

Also, looking for similar at Kyoto, Osaka and Miyajima (or Hiroshima maybe instead of Miyajima)

    thanks,

    Mick

I would have a look at the serviced apartments.

I stayed at the Somerset Roppongi in the past - a nice experience, the rooms are spacious, there's a kitchen, free internet, a star wars toilet and a shower with digital command pad with about 16 buttons and dials of which I used 2 to shower.

The quotes vary depending on the dates, the quote for a week in nov was 15.000 / day.

When I travel in Japan I always try to stay at a Super Hotel. It is the closest thing Japan has to a Budget Hotel chain, think Red Roof Inn and you get the idea. Good, basic rooms, LAN internet connection, free breakfast at most locations, fridge and hot water pot in room, beet and soda vending machines, and some even have on site onsens.

Best of all, if you stay a week, you get the 7th night free, and stays for 30 days get big discounts. Discovered this when some friends visited.

Most are located walking distance to the station, and as a national chain meet all your needs on city requirements.

They are also very clean and safe, but hey this is Japan, everything is clean and safe. And rates can not be beat. I live in the country side of Nara outside of Osaka and if I miss the last train or plan on staying the night, the Super Hotel near Tennoji Station is only ¥5480 with free breakfast.

I know I am sounding like an ad for these guys, but they have done me right. Had a couple of female cousins visiting a few years back, and no room in my small apartment for us all to survive a long stay. Put them up at the Tennoji Super Hotel, and they even have a women's only floor. Nice touch for safety when you have female family visiting.

Check out the website (IN ENGLISH!)

          Just reread my post.

I meant BEER not BEET vending machines, lol. Though considering you can get porn, school girl panties, and even french fries in vending machines here in Japan, I would not be surprised to find one that sales beets. They also sale sake in them.

Let me know when you hit Osaka and I can give you a tour of the Newhalf places here.

Wow, I looked browsed the Superhotel website for a while and this looks like fun, though a bit sterile ... Only thing that is missing is a new-half-add-on option. Almost makes me want to go to Japan for a while but I've already committed to Pattaya, so the island will have to wait :-(

            But thanks for the link!

            Cheers

thanks for the info man - much appreciated. Wich of the Osaka-listed Super hotels would be nearest the Dotomburi area (or would I be better staying elsewhere?)

I'll let you know what dates I plan to be in Osaka

Seeing as I live in BKK, not too bothered about shagging a newhalf but still be interesting to catch up and learn a bit about the scene there

I used to live in Japan but never felt the urge to spend a few hundred bucks on a Newhalf in Shinjuku (I also had a GF at the time). Was a bit pissed that the soapies all seemed to have a no foreigner policy

Exactly the same treatment i got when i was in Japan... anytime i walked near a place, it was if i shat in my pants

I stayed at the new city hotel in Shinjuku last time i was in Tokyo .. i think the price was 10,000 yen or less.
Nice location and simple but adequate hotel.
You will need to shop around to find the best rates however -- newcityhotel

In Hiroshima, stay in the city itself - plenty of cheap hotel for 10,000 yen and under per night!!! - the war museum is a must - its pretty emotional stuff i found.
Miyajima is only a short train and ferry ride away .. lovely little island but no need to stay there... just a good day trip IMHO.

that's the same advice I received elsewhere. I will stay in Hiroshima and do Miyajima as a side-trip

I checked the website for you, and the Super Hotel Namba/Nipponbashi is within easy walking distance to Dotonburi. Never stayed there, so can not give you first hand info, but they all seem pretty standard, so should be okay.

The one in Tennoji is maybe 10 minutes walk to the station, and less than 10 on the subway to Namba, and I have stayed there. It is very nice, even has an onsite onsen. Plus ¥600 cheaper, so it is six of one, half a dozen of the other.

I stayed here before in Osaka.... business hotels... cheap option but quite small and cramped
But if you are trying to save a dollar its not too bad.
