My recommendation is the Hilton - its on Orchid Road, right across from the Orchird Towers, lots of TS in the area. Tube is just one or two blocks depending on how you measure.

Hiya Stogie, just to add my 2 cents. When in Singapore do try the Duck tours. It's an amphibious "bus" which is for tourists and the sister "Hippo" buses which are  hop on and hop off tour through the main spots.
A seldom mentioned hotel is the Rendezvous which is on Bras Basah Road opposite the National Museum. More here - http://www.rendezvoushotels.com.au/singapore/default.aspx

Cheers and don't forget to come to Orchard Towers.

(kleetora @ Jun. 03 2009,07:08) Newton hawker centre is the place for late night eats
Chilli Stingray, Fried rice and a dozen Chicken satay sticks - the memories are flowing back and all washed down with a large Tiger Beer - total bill probably $30 singapore dollars and worth every penny - especially at 2am in the morning after a night out at Orchard Towers. Even better was the fact that I could just stagger 200m and be back at my apartment - ah the good old days.......

You MUST try Chilli stingray - its not really that hot (OK it is but Olay will love it and you can munch on the best satay you will ever have eaten along with some of the best fried rice) and watch the world go by at 2am.

          Cheers

Just some hints - Night safari is indeed great fun - make sure you eat before you go - nothing of any note to eat there.

MANY places are anti ladyboy - Jay had huge problems in many venues.   5* Hotel bars are fine, generally Singaporean NON trendy places are fine, but some trendy places have a zero admission policy including the hi-end part of Zouk (Not that I would expect to see you there !!!!!)  Forget the Marriott late Bar/club - its privately run and they refuse admission to ladyboys.    same with some places in Chimes (which is worth seeing if just for dinner)

Sentosa is a good day out - take the cable car over and just chill out for the day and do lunch at the Shangri-la hotel overlooking the beach.

There used to be 2 IT mall areas - names escape me now - one was Funan centre or something like that but no idea what the second was called.    Funan is walking distance from City Hall MRT station from memory.

Not sure its even still standing, but the Mitre Hotel used to be a interesting (!!!!) late night venue - for all I know its history now especially as it was all of about 300m from Lee Kuan Yew's pad.     Drinking Anchor beer in tins in a overgrown garden within the grounds of a totally derelict hotel at 5am was NOT what I would have expected in Singapore.

Borders bookstore on the corner of Orchard and Scott's is well worth an hour or two - millions of books.   (send Olay up to the mall at Far East Plaza - further up Scott's - she will love that and probably hate Borders).      Far East plaza is full of Chinese made clothes and chinzy stuff that girls seem to love and cheap as chips.     Far east is next up from the Hyatt and on from the Marriott - which is across from Borders.      Its directly across the street from Royal Plaza Hotel on Scott's (you should be getting the idea about the area to stay now).

One more place I often wondered about but never stayed in was a hotel directly behind the Marriott and next to a hospital - name will come to me but escapes me now. Always seemed very central and good value. Negara is another under rated and used to be under priced hotel directly behind Orchard Towers. Could book at the airport desk for $120 singapore dollars a night for a deluxe double room when I used to use it some 7 years ago. It was always slated as due to be converted to a apartment building so again, this needs to be verified but location is very very good (and next door to Thai embassy if you really cared).

            Cheers

satay is good at Newton Circus hawker center - but I found the satay in Malaysia to be even better. Good call on chili stingray - the chili crab is also fantastic - better than Thailand.

                Marla Hotel
How can you visit Singapore and exclude me?

Here are a list of hotels I've hosted my international artists:
                http://www.albertcourt.com.sg
                http://www.robertsonquayhotel.com.sg/

                http://www.hotel81.com.sg/loc_c.shtml - Bencoolen
                http://www.hotel81.com.sg/loc_d.shtml - Chinatown

Hotel-81 is a good budget hotel, I've listed 2 that are located in tourist areas and near town.

                1.
I don't think Olay will have any problems with entry to any nightspots, she's very passable- the bouncers look out for the overtly-sexual ladyboys and I don't think that's Olay's style! I do frequent Double-O and Zouk, the latter being less LB-friendly but I get away by leaving a smokebomb of people gasping over my legs.

                2.
You could also try our new Singapore Flyer, the world's largest observation wheel. http://www.singaporeflyer.com.sg/

Night Safari- the world's first wildlife park for night visits 7.30pm to 12mn!
                http://www.nightsafari.com.sg

I'd highly recommend the Night Safari!

How long will you lovebirds be here for?
                Now a SUPER sister!

                    Stogie,

Can recommend Albert Court Hotel, have stayed there a few times. Close to Sin Lim Tower for IT gear, Bugis Street just a short walk awa and has a hawker centre next door for cheap eats.

Best prices by booking on their website, try and get deluxe room if there are two of you.
