(Stogie @ Apr. 29 2009,11:49) Gotta watch out for those sneaky respirable suspended particulates...
Specially the ones eminating from sneezing Sombrero wearers...

Is "girl friendly" a relevant issue in Hong Kong, or are all hotels girl friendly (and LB friendly)?

I have never taken a LB back to my hotel in HK but I doubt there would be a problem.

As for what to wear, just take a very light jumper for the evenings but you probably won't need it. You will love the coolness in the air but the gals might be colder than you - depends how sensitive they are!

The weather is going to be pleasant (unless a tornado hits!) but if we are down by the sea or traveling on boats then it'll be breezy... plus Hong Kong love to keep it's buses, trains and restaurants, etc, freezing cold inside!

So we will be shopping for sweaters, tops and decent walking shoes!

We only have two full days in Hong Kong so for day time activities we'll probably end up doing the Mid Levels escalator, Stanley Market and The Peak on the first full day. On the second we'll most likely do a day trip to Macao for some hiking around...

There is a 'special purpose' Octopus card available for tourists for 300 dollars (HK) and it includes 2 trips on the Airport Express and 3 days unlimited Metro train travel. You can also use the ticket on the buses, and many restaurants... especially the fast food ones. You even get 50 HK$ back when you return it, but it makes a pretty good souvenir so I won't! (There is a 220 HK$ option which includes just one ride on the airport express.)

It's called "The Airport Express Tourist Octopus" and it's available from the Airport Express Customer Services Center... which of course will be our first port of call after we clear customs.

Hong Kong sure makes things easy for visitors!

I get the impression that Hong Kong is slightly more formal when it comes to casual attire and long trousers and shirts with collars are more common than shorts and T shirts!

            Just one week to go!

Stick to hiking, Macau is a mafia shithole. The suicide rate used to be the highest in the world and if you take a trip around the island and see some of the high rise you will inderstand.

Unless you like Casino culture and the type of ambience that goes with it, forget it.

Also if you aint got sea legs, forget it, i came of the hoverjet and turned green

              never again

( edit-- i last went in 1994...maybe its changed, )

Yes, it got worse -- there is a depression now with the global downturn and China restricting its citizens to one visit every 3 months.

Macau is for gambling. Given your short time, I'd skip Macau and go to Ocean Park or hiking on one of the HK Islands, like Lantau -- but I've never done this.

I like Macau, but I like to gamble (as long as its very infrequently), but I can't see any of your party being interested.

I've done some research on this and it turns out that the weekends (of course) are pretty crowded... Gotta give this some more thought!
