a comment in another thread by jaidee had be doing search for info on costa rica, but found nothing more than this unanswered question, so i figured i'd just bump it up --
my question: if the reds keep me out of thailand where do i go?
i've heard costa rica is in many ways the LOS of the west (beautiful beaches, great climate, inexpensive lifestyle, friendly people) -- except i can find *no* information on the most important element in any vacation/retirement: the availability of beautiful ladyboys/tgirls.
any one got info or even a referral to a site with info?

Do a search. I've posted comments on San Jose and Costa Rica several times since 2005.“When a nation's young men are conservative, its funeral bell is already rung.”

For CR focus on finding a cool taxi guy who knows what you're looking for. Plan to meet him and scout. You can find stunning street walkers there. Some spanish would help. Avoid walking around looking for them at night! San Jose is much more dangerous at night than Thailand etc. A lot of petty and violent criminality. You can drive to tolerant short stay hotels, don't expect a castle. Most important don't underestimate risk of street crime. That said, gems can be found in San Jose.

(Lefty @ May 20 2010,09:52) Do a search. I've posted comments on San Jose and Costa Rica several times since 2005.
i don't want to besmirch the search function here, but...
if you don't remember where you posted, don't worry about it. my off-site research has left me unimpressed already.
maybe the philippines instead...or just fuck it all and risk pattaya -- from all i've read so far, a couple of reds added to the mix in chonburi is still safer than san jose even on a peaceful night. and i know the ladies can't compare.
p.s.
and thanks, buddy, that high-crime factor is what keeps me out of brazil and it'll probably keep me out of costa rica too.

CR is not crime ridden. The areas of San Jose most frequented by gringos is relatively safe. The barrio that I would locate in would be Barrio Amon. This takes in Parque Morazon, the so called Gringo Gulch area, etc. Prostitution is completely legal there for anyone 18+. Pimping is not. Since the girls don't really need any protection, since they are not breaking laws, having a pimp wouldn't make sense anyway. Just cruising around Barrio Amon at night, the streets north of Parque Morazon mostly, one can see plenty of travestis plying their wares. Most all of the girls you'll see on street corners in small groups are travestis. The female hookers, since they are legal, are welcomed to hang around in the ground floors of some of the hotels that are in Gringo Gulch. Gambling is also legal and many ground floors in hotels are small casinos. The travestis are not welcome to hook inside the hotels because of the general prejudice against them. Most of the girls and some of the travestis have regular day time jobs and just turn tricks at night to augment their income and probably because they like sex too of course. You will see girls from Panama, Nicaragua, Colombia, Dominican Republic, as well as the Costa Ricans or Ticas, all working as hookers in the hotels. The travestis I encountered though were either Costa Rican or Nicaraguan. The ones from the latter were very well hung too btw.
Females working in massage parlors are available for sex too, for a little extra money. This is expected that the customers will often want to pay them extra for sex and not against the rules for the establishments either, as I recall.
I don't have good success using the search function either. My last post about CR was in this sub forum though, I'm pretty sure. The posts from 2005 or so, I have no idea as the forum wasn't as broken up into sub forums back then. I'll try to search and see what I can find.“When a nation's young men are conservative, its funeral bell is already rung.”

You're entirely welcome. It's nice when old threads can still come in handy.
I think there is a thread I did not find, where I replied inside the thread about CR. But anything I said then would have been a repeat from that trip report thread.“When a nation's young men are conservative, its funeral bell is already rung.”
