  • Shanghai: The best places to see

    hello everyone!

i tried searching the travel info forum about shanghai...but found insufficient details....well especially about just generally wandering around the place and stuff like that....

i am there on a tourist visa sometime next month...

what are the best places to go to in Shanghai? places that one cannot find in Google or lonelyplanet would be superb! but the common in-the-way-of-the-tourist places would also be wonderful!

    thanks everyone...

Don't know about your tastes, but maybe some websites as below can help to widen your knowledge up about the place:

I lived in Shanghai for about a year. You probably already know about the Bund...but this is obviously a must see if you are at all interested in beautiful architecture.

Another great area is Xintiandi. It is an old part of shanghai that has been restored into a very high-end shopping and entertainment area. Any taxi driver will know it.

Otherwise...Shanghai is a great walking city. You cant go wrong by just walking around on the Puxi side of the river. You can give the Pudong side of the river a miss.

      Have a great trip

How many days do you have?

Go over to Fudan or another university, like Shanghai Foreign Language U, and hire an English student to show you around the city.

Oh, wait, it's Lisa Winkler. So you and I don't have quite the same interests.

Lisa, you could probably get a local expat to show you around.
Retired the top 12.  Need a new dirty dozen.

Update: The new list is coming together: Nong Poy, Anita, Nok, Gif, Liisa Winkler, Kay, Nina Poon.  Is it possible to find 5 more?  Until then, GGs:  Jessica Alba, Yuko Ogura, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Q, and Gong Li.

Xintiandi is quite expensive - worth a look, I guess

The Bund is very nice at night - some cool bars and good places to eat (try M on the bund - rooftop restaurant with fantastic view of the Bund)

I always liked the Yuyuan garden - also has plenty of markets etc nearby and some good tea houses

Also, worth checking out Jade Buddha Temple

For shopping, Huahai Road or Nanjing Road
                      No honey, no money!!
