  • off topic but a tourist  question

Thailand is famous for its Thai boxing and martial arts. In BKK are there tournaments, shows displays on? Are there Thai boxing gyms near the centre, that give lessons?

The amazons are the butch muscular LBs right? Are any of them martial artists so can take care of themselves if a punter tries to do a runner or rob them? Was wondering are they amazon fight nights, or mudwrestling fights etc?

Janet in Cascade is a proffessional kick boxer, or was, I am not sure whether or not she still does it, as she wants to be a LB. But she is a very nice person & can probably help you find what you are looking for. There are pictures of her in my trip report "23 nights in the LOS".

I have known her for some time & she operates on a fairly short fuse, hence "If in doubt lights out, Janet"  & I have seen her flatten ignorant, disrespectful farangs in seconds, mainly thru' high kicks. I was in Cascade one night when one of the young Ozzie lads she was sat next to jumped up proclaiming she was a bloke & not a women, no shit Shirlock, & punched her, big mistake. She jumped over the sort of church pew seat arrangement they have into the gangway in one move. Mr Ozzie thought he was Mr Tough-Guy & decided he was going to sort her out. It lasted seconds, if that, his mate decided this looked like good fun & joined in too. Both were barely concious!! & the other LB's were grabbing Janet to prevent really serious injury. I have barfined her a few times, & play wrestled her in the room, I cannot believe how strong she is, especially in her legs.

She could be just what you are looking for.

You pays your money & takes your chance. This isn't a rehearsal do it now, it's no good looking back when it's a lover & wishing.... ITS TOO LATE.

In Bangkok you can see real Muay Thai fights 6 nights a week, either at National Stadium or Lumpini Stadium (they alternate nights).
Other places in Thailand also have fights, but many of them are staged just for tourists. Going to the stadium at Lumpini is my choice.

Lessons are available - but I don't have any information on that

it seems to me the cheap vs expensive seats depends on the type of person you are and what you like to see.

personally i liked the cheaper seats with the majority of the thai crowds.  especially when they get whipped into a betting or fight frenzy.  much more entertaining.  the "expensive" seats definitely have a better view but are mainly filled with falang who are there for the tourist value of it.

i highly recommend lumpini stadium for great fights.
avoid the tourist trap staged shows. those are shite!

Just so there is no confusion can we write Aussie instead of Ozzie.

              Thanks guys
